Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather: 3 Reasons Money May Would Have the Edge
As for the everlasting debate over who would win the possible matchup between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, it could come down to three main points.
If the heavily anticipated fight ever does take place, the fight is expected to shatter all records as far as Pay-Per-View audiences go, with the majority of those watching hoping to see Mayweather get his first loss—as is the case in most of his fights as of late.
Here are the three key areas Mayweather would hold the edge in this fight, which will ultimately give him the win over Pacquiao and disappoint those who tune in hoping for a chance at seeing Money May's first professional loss.
1. Mayweather Is Too Elusive
1 of 3Floyd Mayweather is known as one of the toughest boxers to land a significant blow against in boxing history, and Manny Pacquiao won't have an easy time landing punches against Money May either.
Mayweather's elusive fighting style will prove to be frustrating for Pacquiao and will play a part in knocking Pacquiao off his fight plan—as we have seen happen with countless opponents of Mayweather throughout his career.
Mayweather has not earned the nickname "Pretty Boy" for nothing. His ability to come out of fights seemingly unscathed and looking "pretty" is all owed to his elusiveness.
2. Mayweather's Counter-Punching Style
2 of 3Floyd Mayweather also incorporates his incredible counter-punching ability to his elusiveness, creating many opportunities to land a big time shot in his fights.
Manny Pacquiao has had tough times with accomplished counter-punchers, and struggling to overcome Mayweather's counter-punching will prove to be too much for him. It will allow Mayweather to land the more meaningful shots, giving him the better chance of ending the fight early by way of KO.
Not only does it give Mayweather the better chance of a KO, but it also helps contain Pacquaio's speedy punching, one of the area's that Pacquiao could give Mayweather cause for concern.
3. Mayweather's Size Advantage over Pacquiao
3 of 3Floyd Mayweather's natural size will prove to be the biggest factor in giving him the edge against Manny Pacquiao in a fight.
According to Boxingscene.com and its tale of the tape, Mayweather is two inches taller than Pacquiao and possesses a five-inch reach advantage over Pacquiao.
An even more daunting area of concern for Pacquiao would be the two fighter's natural weight. The night of the fight weight for the two fighters gives Mayweather a big advantage, as Pacquiao stays at around 145 pounds—the same weight that he weighs-in the day before—and Mayweather jumps from 147 pounds the day of the weigh-in to 153 the night of the fight, giving Money May an eight-pound advantage.
The eight pounds coupled with the five-inch reach advantage will not only allow Mayweather to keep Pacquiao at bay with the reach advantage, but it will also allow Mayweather to absorb Pacquiao's hits better. It will give Mayweather the greater chance of a KO win, as simple physics states more weight behind a punch gives a fighter a better chance at hurting the opposing fighter.
