UFC on Versus 5 Results: 4 Fights Jared Hamman Should Take Next

First LastJun 7, 2018

Jared Hamman found a new home in the middleweight division when he stopped Ultimate Fighter finalist C.B. Dollaway in the second round of their back-and-forth battle at UFC on Versus 5.

Hamman had to overcome adversity in the bout, including submission attempts and being rocked by Dollaway in the first round. He eventually wore "The Doberman" down with his relentless pressure and won by TKO in Round 2.

With a 1-0 record in the middleweight division, Hamman can begin to rebuild himself in the UFC. He had fought three times previously in the UFC's light heavyweight division. He went 1-2 but had put on two Fight of the Night performances in those bouts.

These are four possible fights for him to take next.

No. 4: Ed Herman

1 of 4

Considering both fought and won on the UFC on Versus 5 card, they will both be ready around the same time when they decide to fight again.

Herman defeated Kyle Noke by submission in the first round of their preliminary bout. It was his second victory in a row with the other being a quick knockout over Tim Credeur from earlier this year.

Both are exciting to watch and very durable fighters. This has the makings of being a Fight of the Night and a solid main-card PPV opener.

Out of 44 combined fights between them, only six have gone the distance.

No. 3: Loser of Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Miller

2 of 4

Middleweights Dan Miller and Rousimar Palhares will fight at UFC 134, which goes down in Rio later this month.

Miller has had a tough road in the UFC and has gone 2-4 in his last six fights. His losses include Michael Bisping, Nate Marquardt, Chael Sonnen and Demian Maia.

Palhares is 5-2 in the UFC with three wins by kneebar or heelhook. His only losses in the UFC were to Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson.

I doubt Hamman would face the winner of this bout, but both matchups make sense either way.

No. 2: Constantinos Philippou

3 of 4

Constantinos Philippou recently defeated Jorge Rivera at UFC 133. He was a late replacement for Alessio Sakara and won a close split decision.

His MMA record is 8-2 with a 1-1 record inside the Octagon.

With Philippou's background in boxing, he may be able to exploit some of the holes in Hamman's standup game. Hamman trains with Antoni Hardonk, so he also has the tools to bring the fight to Philippou.

This could make for a good Spike TV bout before a PPV. It may be the type of fight to draw more people into buying the PPV.

No. 1: Winner of Nick Ring vs. Tim Boetsch

4 of 4

Tim Boetsch and Nick Ring will fight at UFC 135 in a preliminary bout. Ring is undefeated at 12-0 and is 2-0 in the UFC. Boetsch is 13-4 in MMA and is 4-3 in the UFC.

Boetsch recently made a similar career decision to Hamman in deciding to move to the middleweight division. He debuted at UFC 130, where he defeated Kendall Grove by unanimous decision.

Ring has victories over Riki Fukuda and James Head. His win over Fukuda was a highly disputed decision victory that many thought the Japanese fighter should have won.

Hamman won't be able to secure a high-level opponent just yet, so he will have to settle for mid-tier and up-and-coming fighters in the division.

This is a good step for him.
