WWE Summerslam 2011 Results: After Randy Orton Loss, What's Next for Christian?

Raj PrashadJun 7, 2018

As the World Heavyweight Champion, Christian made his entrance and notified the crowd that he had a special guest in his corner. He told the audience that his best friend, the Rated R Superstar, Edge, would be in his corner Sunday night.

Edge told Christian he supported him throughout his journey to the World Heavyweight Championship before berating him for the way he won the belt—through whining for rematches, hiding behind lawyers and eventually winning the belt by disqualification.

Randy Orton and Christian put on one of the better matches of 2011. Their match involved steel chairs, three tables, two trash cans, a couple kendo sticks and the steel stairs, but their wrestling stole the show (if you don't include the incredible match Cena and Punk put on). The two put on a phenomenal match while utilizing the environment instead of making the weapons and spots the focus of the match.

The match ended with Orton RKOing a flying Christian onto the steel stairs, as Christian was attempting a flying cross body.

The next five slides are on what could be next for Christian after his difficult loss to Orton.

Rematch with Orton

1 of 6

Christian and Randy Orton’s rivalry seems far from over and could run through Survivor Series.

Edge’s return hopefully ended the whining character Christian has portrayed on television since dropping the belt to Orton less than a week after winning it back in late April.

This seems like the most likely option, with Christian getting some sort of respect from Orton for how well he held himself throughout the bout. Although this is the most likely scenario, Orton beating Captain Charisma cleanly might be the end to that rivalry.

Sheamus on the Rise

2 of 6

Smackdown is currently extremely light on “faces” ("good guys," for those unfamiliar with the term) and could use an established good guy to bolster the roster not named Randy Orton.

After Sheamus’ loss to Mark Henry at Summerslam, and his count-out victory against Christian on the last Smackdown, it only makes sense for the rivalries to switch.

Henry is due for a huge push after taking out the likes of the Big Show and Kane over the last month, before cleanly beating Sheamus at the PPV, leaving the Celtic Warrior with no real challenge.

Enter Christian, the former World Champion, who could develop a lengthy rivalry with the Irish-born superstar. Defeating Christian could instantly boost Sheamus back into main event status, or could then assist Christian back into contention for the belt.

Perfect Rivalry for a Returning Sin Cara

3 of 6

Sin Cara returns to television this Friday night on Smackdown and, what better “heel” (or bad guy) to match the lucha libre up with than one of the top heels on the show.

Sin Cara needs more exposure on the weekly show and could use Christian’s main event status to bring him to the promised land.

Christian’s flashy, willing-to-take-a-bump showmanship would mesh perfectly with Sin Cara’s high-flying abilities.

The Personification of Domination Faces Captain Charisma

Ezekiel Jackson seems to be locked into a feud with Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase, but this is another guy that needs a solidified heel to take him to the next level.

Christian has played stepping stone before and helped guys get over with the crowd, and this specific instance would be no different.

Jackson needs the crowd to get behind him and could be a force to be reckoned with if he can combine his athleticism with better work on the mic. It looks like the WWE is building Jackson for the future and he could use working with a smaller, more athletic guy like Christian.

Mr. Money in the Bank: Christian

5 of 6

The least likely of all is Daniel Bryan, who could also use some love from the crowd.

The guy has all the talent in the world, but his ineffective mic work and the live crowds unwillingness to get behind him might hinder his ability to get over.

Watch for Christian to take Bryan to the top when his feud with Wade Barrett is over, which could be this Friday.

Another option could be Christian continuing his weaseling ways and somehow sneak away the Money in the Bank briefcase from Daniel Bryan, who still doesn't seem ready for the main event.
