WWE SummerSlam 2011 Results: Why Punk Won't Reclaim the WWE Title Anytime Soon
In a shocking end to SummerSlam, CM Punk defeated John Cena to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship even though, unbeknownst to Triple H, Cena's foot was on the ropes.
While CM Punk was celebrating in the ring, Kevin Nash appeared and delivered a jack knife powerbomb to the WWE Champion. Immediately after, Alberto Del Rio seized the opportunity and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, pinning Punk and capturing the title.
In the immediate aftermath of SummerSlam, fans are already excited and looking forward to Night of Champions on September 18. The first thought is that we are going to get a fatal four-way match between Cena, Punk, Nash and Del Rio for the WWE Championship.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
While it may look good on paper, and seemingly the odds for each competitor, I think that it is safe to say that CM Punk will not be reclaiming the WWE Championship next month.
While I personally think that WWE was foolish to squash the momentum that CM Punk had going so quickly, I can understand why. Alberto Del Rio has been patiently waiting for his destiny to be fulfilled, and he finally saw it come to fruition at SummerSlam.
He has won both the Royal Rumble match and Money in the Bank without winning the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship until Sunday night. If WWE had waited much longer, Del Rio would have begun to fade out of the spotlight.
WWE also has their tour of Mexico coming up in October which will feature both Raw and SmackDown tapings. What better way to reach out and cater to Mexico's fans than to have a Mexican superstar as the WWE champion?
Sure, Rey Mysterio would probably work better than a heel, and he could easily take the title from Del Rio before the October trip, but with the dates fast approaching, CM Punk seems to be left out in the cold.
It is unfortunate for Punk, whose momentum was letting him stand so high above every other superstar only hours ago. Monday Night Raw is undoubtedly going to have to answer some questions, and it is very likely that CM Punk is going to remain in the WWE title picture for a month or two; but I do not see any potential answers that put CM Punk back in the top spot on Raw.
Maybe he will keep up the feud with John Cena until The Rock comes knocking; maybe he will join up with some incoming indy superstars and start up another stable similar to the original Nexus; or maybe he will just drift back to where he was before he signed a new contract.
Whatever the case may be, it seems almost certain that when CM Punk kissed the WWE Championship before his match tonight, he was kissing it goodbye for a while.
