WWE SummerSlam 2011: Could The Rock Show Up and Cost John Cena the WWE Title?

Tom Urtz Jr.May 31, 2018

I went on to write today and I saw the site mobbed with live blogs, predictions and other pieces of similar substance.

It is SummerSlam Sunday, and I totally expected to see this on the page.

However, I decided to look into the crystal ball of WWE creative and wanted to ask you, The Universe, could The Rock show up tonight and cost John Cena the WWE Title. For years, SummerSlam has been the biggest pay-per-view and party of the summer.

It is a silent reminder that the year is half way over and WrestleMania is slowly approaching from afar in the distance. The location of tonight's PPV fuels my sneaking suspicion that the Hollywood Superstar could make an appearance.

When he appeared via Facebook video on Raw, many fans wondered why would a segment featuring The Rock appear on Monday Night Raw for no reason? This made absolutely no sense for some, as The Rock has publicly stated that he will be at Survivor Series.

C.M. Punk had him issue a statement and it makes me wonder if somehow if he will show up. We all know about the history between The Great One and The Game. That element would bring this appearance some buzz and excitement.

We all know The Rock's style. He is flashy and loves working a crowd.

He loves the limelight and has grown accustom to the bright lights of Hollywood. Why would he pass up an opportunity to shine in front of the millions...and millions of viewers on a pay-per-view in the hotbed of media buzz and gossip?

WWE has relied heavily on The Rock's name, popularity and concoctions in Hollywood for generating a lot of buzz and excitement for WrestleMania 28. He helped draw in large numbers for WM 27, so it is no secret that WWE is attempting to recreate past success.

He has already cost John Cena a WWE Title before; what's to say he wouldn't do it again? I personally think The Rock will show up, but I am uncertain of what he will do.

Most likely, The Rock would only need to walk down the aisle towards Cena and it would create a distraction. Special guest referee Triple H could attempt to hold back Cena and Punk could accidentally strike him.

This would only have a minor impact in the grand scheme of things. Of course, there is always the chance to make a bigger splash. I saw a tweet from former superstar and current FCW trainer Bill DeMott that got me thinking.

"

"Done outside, packing and then some dinner before@WWE ! This will set the tone for the rest of the year heading into  !!

"

Most times, tweets from superstars can be take at face value. However, DeMott is an interesting tweeter and loves to play devil's advocate.

Take that tweet as you will, but stranger things have happened.

If creative is looking to make a clean Punk/Cena break for a while, involving The Rock and rekindling their feud would be a smart way to do it. Punk needs some fresh opponents because he can't have many more match-of-the-year candidates with John Cena.

Whoever walks out the WWE Champion will be defending the title tomorrow night on Raw, so it leaves a lot of room for new and exciting feuds.

The biggest block party of the summer better not fail to impress because fans will lose faith in WWE's ability to book back-to-back successful PPVs.

What do you want to see happen tonight? Who would you like to see C.M. Punk feud with next?

Wrestling is for the fans and we have a voice. We want wrestling and I feel this is a great way to air out some ideas.
