WWE SummerSlam 2011: Christian and 7 Wrestlers to Contend for the World Title

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Now that we know who will be holding the title on Friday night, we need to look to the crystal ball and see the bigger picture.

There is a pecking order of sorts. There are challengers already established and there are those to be determined.

SummerSlam is about the end of the summer and the beginning of the long haul toward the holiday months and the quest for the World Heavyweight Title.

While XX has the title, there will be plenty of challengers, some who have not been determined yet and some who will need to heal from injury to become true contenders in the coming weeks and months.

Tyson Kidd

It has been said management and creative do not know what to do with him. Now that the PPV is over, will he finally get the push he needs to be a true superstar?

He looks like an X-Division champion in another organization but he is in limbo here in the WWE. A feud with Daniel Bryan would be amazing, but I cannot see that happening.

Giving him more of a spot toward the end of the SmackDown program would do him good and allow fans to see his more of his talent.

Drew McIntyre/Jack Swagger

2 of 7

This would take some movement from Raw to SmackDown, but if these two superstars are going to move up the ladder, it makes sense as they may need a brand switch.

Having McIntrye and Swagger challenge for the world title makes more sense since there may be more chance for them to move upward faster in this kind of situation.

Daniel Bryan

He has the MITB title that he said he will cash in at WrestleMania. But honestly, that means we have to wait. A lot can happen in that time.

Bryan needs more of a push and some attitude, but his skills are comparable to a Benoit and he is liked by the WWE Universe.

His being a world title holder would be interesting.

Wade Barrett

This is where Barrett really needs to step up because the guys in front of him are on the upswing.

Barrett can talk and has a good look and can sell. He has been out of sorts for a bit and this push would help him.

Having a Brit challenge for the world title would be something the fans can get behind as a heel challenging America.

Cody Rhodes

5 of 7

He isn't quite there challenging for the title, but he is close. Putting the Intercontinental title on him gives him some momentum.

No one besides Mark Henry has climbed the ladder quicker. Rhodes is a future champion but it may take a little while longer.

Sheamus/Mark Henry

6 of 7

Either way you look at it, these guys will be the world champion at some point. Sheamus became a face out of necessity and his feud with Henry is perfect for both of them.

Henry is destroying opponents, literally, and he balances the power between the two.

Honestly, one of these two guys should be champion right now. Henry got the win tonight via count-out but Sheamus appears to be the man on the rise.

Christian

7 of 7

Maybe I called this right. I thought there might be a tweak in this one. Edge turning his back on his best friend—it only makes Christian hungrier.

After this instant classic, Christian will get a title rematch. With politics in the WWE, look for Christian to demand a title rematch because he did not get his way.

The match from last night is worthy of another go around for the two.
