WWE Summerslam 2011: Stone Cold, the Rock, and Other Legends Who Need to Show Up

Ryan DearboneJun 7, 2018

This has the makings to be a pretty damn good edition of SummerSlam. While not the best by far, it could land in the top 5 of all time.

However, in order for that to happen, I think several members of WWE's past should make some sort of appearance. Take for example, when Hulk Hogan main-evented against the Heart Break Kid, Shawn Michaels. It made a magical moment for wrestling fans everywhere.

Now, none of the people on this list are confirmed to show up for this year's Slam (even though rumors have been swirling on a couple of them).

Here's who should show up and why:

Stone Cold Steve Austin

What's summertime without a beer bash? Well if SCSA shows up, we won't have to answer that question. I think "The Rattlesnake" needs to show up and give Punk a little pep talk before he goes to battle with Cena.

Punk already seems to respect him at least a little since he did don a Stone Cold T-shirt on Raw just a few weeks ago. Plus with the apparent re-tread of the "rebel wrestler vs. the corporate boss" that Punk and Triple H seem to be doing, it would be nice for Stone Cold to kick it off with a round of Stunners for everyone.

The Rock

2 of 6

This one is a no-brainer. Rock and Cena are penciled in for WrestleMania 28 and they need the "Great One" to show up to further the storyline. With all the smack talking that's been going on between Rock and Cena via YouTube and Twitter, its about time for another round in the ring.

Rocky might also take sides in the Punk/Cena skirmish. He's obviously got issues with Cena, but Punk has also called out The Rock for being as being a phony as Cena is. Maybe Rock gets his revenge on one of them by interfering in the match?

If you smell what I'm cooking.

Trish Stratus

The Divas division may be finally coming out of the darkness with a viable storyline coming together. Beth and Natalya vs. the "bimbos" of WWE Wrestling has legs, but it needs a little more.

I say bring in Trish to help Beth defeat Kelly Kelly. Since Trish is the best example of someone who went from a weak wrestler to one of the best in Divas history, I could see Trish finding disappointment in women like Kelly Kelly for dropping the ball.

Plus it's never a bad day if you can see one of the hottest Divas of all time!

Rowdy Roddy Piper

With all the jawing going on between Cena and Punk, there really needs to be a fair and unbiased mediator. To that end, SummerSlam should contain a Piper's Pit before the main event.

Maybe, just maybe Hot Rod can bring these guys to an amicable truce? Or he could escalate the situation like he usually tends to do.

Plus, it would be great to hear another king on the mic give his two cents to the guys who've been cutting some of the best promos in recent memory.

Mick Foley

5 of 6

I miss Mick Foley on WWE programming! He's always willing to give a cheap pop or take a sick bump. Now that he's no longer property of TNA, it would be great to see him back in the WWE.

I propose he could be revealed as the anonymous Raw General Manager and clash with Trips about how Raw is being run. Which could lead to a final match between the two after a storied rivalry that saw Trips retire Foley.

Foley is always good for business, and now is the time to use him as a trump card.

Edge

6 of 6

The newly-minted "Rated R Retiree" was there to see his childhood friend, Christian, capture the World Heavyweight Title, so why wouldn't he be there to help him retain it?

Edge knows how to be opportunistic and seize the moment in a big pay-per-view atmosphere, so he should definitely be in Christian's corner.

Just because he can't wrestle, doesn't mean he can't distract Randy Orton just long enough for Christian to steal a victory?

One can only hope.
