5 Teams That Should Consider a Healthy Terrell Owens

John RozumJun 4, 2018

Regardless of what you may think about the controversial WR, there's no denying that he one of the league's best play-makers.

And for those that don't know, he is second only to Jerry Rice in career receiving yards.

Yeah, pretty impressive, right?

Obviously he comes with some baggage, but he has matured throughout the years.

That being said, he adds a dimension to an offense that only he and a few other WRs can provide.

Therefore, don't expect to see the 2011 NFL season play out without T.O. landing somewhere, especially to one of these five franchises.

For more information about where T.O. may end up, check out this article.

Arizona Cardinals

With the addition of TE Todd Heap, the Arizona Cardinals have two excellent receiving targets for new QB Kevin Kolb.

Larry Fitzgerald is a WR who can run any type of route anywhere on the field, and knows how to get open at all levels of yardage.

Signing Terrell Owens would only complement Fitz even more, and give Kolb another sick target to lock in on.

Think about it.

T.O. goes deep, Fitz gets one-on-one, and Todd Heap beats a linebacker like normal.

And if Fitz is doubled, that just leaves T.O. mano-y-mano.

Also, they'd have the Hail Mary advantage as both Larry and Terrell leap in up for the jump ball.

Advantage Arizona.

Miami Dolphins

2 of 5

There's turmoil in Miami as Chad Henne doesn't appear to be the QB of the future.

Well, since the Dolphins didn't trade for someone else, or draft a QB, Henne appears to be their guy.

So, since Henne is in this position, why not get him another weapon that will complement WR Brandon Marshall, and RB Reggie Bush?

Because as of now, defenses are going to double Marshall, and play Bush with a linebacker mirroring him, while another DB mans him up.

Miami's other WRs aren't dangerous enough to make an impact like T.O.

Carolina Panthers

3 of 5

Other than Steve Smith, Carolina doesn't have any receiving targets for Cam Newton.

For one, Steve Smith has some Larry Fitzgerald-esque qualities in which he can stretch the field, while also providing the QB with running routes at all field levels.

Well, bringing in Owens will stretch the field even more, and can free up Cam Newton behind the line of scrimmage.

Defenses won't be blitzing as much, as the majority will need to be in coverage to account for Smith and Owens.

Thus, Newton scrambling more often, but throwing it when either Smith or Owens is covered one-on-one.

Cleveland Browns

If there was one thing the Cleveland Browns could have done in the 2011 NFL Draft, it was take Alabama's Julio Jones at No. 6 overall.

However, they neglected to do so, and traded down for defense.

Not a bad idea, but it forced them to not be as strong at WR leading into 2011.

Unless, they make an offer to Terrell Owens who could significantly improve Colt McCoy's targets.

Right now the Browns have a lot invested into rookie Greg Little from UNC, and then Mohamed Massaquoi, as well as Brian Robiskie.

Not to mention they're contemplating about Terrelle Pryor.

Nonetheless, adding T.O. would immediately make him their No. 1 WR, and with a prosperous QB in McCoy, Owens will easily stretch the field in Cleveland.

Plus they have a solid running game, so play-action will do wonders for a team where their leading receiving was a TE (Benjamim Watson, who although good, still shouldn't be your leading receiver).

Indianapolis Colts

How elated do you think Terrell Owens would be to see Peyton Manning gunning him the rock from 70 yards away?

And, how elated do you think Manning would be to have the second place career yards receiver lined up on the outside?

Other than Steve Young, Peyton Manning would be the best QB Owens would have ever played for, because although McNabb was good, they still lost the Super Bowl.

Whereas both Manning and Young have one as a starter.

So, how about Manning to T.O. for the next few years?

Then, both can retire since it's almost that time, and both do give one another solid odds at a Super Bowl run.
