14 Best Throwback Jerseys in NFL History
Over the long history of the NFL, there have been hundreds of different types of jerseys.
On occasion, teams will wear their old school, throwback jerseys as a gimmick to sell tickets and add to the overall fan experience.
This list will cover the 14 best throwback jerseys in NFL history and which teams have had the most style in their pasts.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1 of 14Okay, I know most people hate the ugly "Creamsicle" Tampa Bay Buccaneers throwback jersey, but it had to make the list.
This jersey is easily one of the most famous throwbacks in NFL history and represents an era of losing and embarrassment in the Buccaneers organization.
The Bucs of today occasionally wear these to allow their fans to look back and laugh.
The Creamsicles are a part of NFL history and easily deserve a spot on this list.
Denver Broncos
2 of 14The dark orange and royal blue Denver Broncos throwback jerseys are just awesome.
These jerseys remind me of John Elway, early in his career and of seeing highlights of the young star.
These throwbacks represent John Elway's early career and the struggles he faced before finally winning a Super Bowl.
They have a lot of history behind them and deserve to be on the list.
Dallas Cowboys
3 of 14These classic Dallas Cowboys' throwback jerseys remind me of old western movies, and I don't know why.
Perhaps it's the solid blue star that slightly resembles a sheriff's badge.
The white numbers on top of the blue jersey shirt looks fantastic and the stars on each shoulder put this classic jersey over the top. This throwback could easily be higher on the list.
Buffalo Bills
4 of 14While the colors on this throwback Buffalo Bills' throwback aren't that great, and the jersey pattern is pretty bland, this jersey makes the list solely based on the helmet.
The red bison standing proudly is a great representation of a proud Bills' franchise and a proud fan base.
Indianapolis Colts
5 of 14I am a big fan of the Indianapolis Colts' modern-day jersey, but their throwback is a nice change of pace.
The blue helmet is a big change from the white, horseshoe patterned helmet of today and looks great paired with the white jerseys with solid blue letters.
These jerseys make Peyton Manning's audibles look at least five times cooler.
San Francisco 49ers
6 of 14These classic 1980's San Francisco 49ers jerseys remind me of Joe Montana dominating the decade and winning Super Bowls.
One of the most famous plays in NFL history, "The Catch," took place in these jerseys and after seeing that highlight over ten thousand times, the red and gold has grown on me.
The 49ers should seriously consider changing their uniforms back to these classics.
New York Giants
7 of 14Another classic 1980s style jersey is the New York Giants throwbacks.
My favorite part about these jerseys is the word "Giants" written across the helmet and is something I couldn't love any more.
The blue, white and red are classic American colors and represent a great American game well.
New York Jets
8 of 14These old school AFL jerseys are pretty damn cool and the name to go along with them makes them even cooler.
The Titans of New York played in these throwbacks and so do today's New York Jets on occasion.
St. Louis Rams
9 of 14This classic St. Louis Rams jersey is special to me because it remind me of the first Super Bowl I remember watching.
I was in third grade and loved the Rams that year (I was a fair-weather fan, like most nine-year-olds) and cheered for them hard in the Super Bowl against the Tennessee Titans.
I love the simple color scheme and ram horns around the helmet, and I would love to see today's Rams bring these out more often.
Chicago Bears
10 of 14The Chicago Bears are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL and have had some of the greatest jerseys of all time over the years.
The jerseys from 1985 are absolutely awesome and remind me of one of the most dominant teams in football history.
Also, seeing Walter Payton in these jerseys really help their cause, as Sweetness had some of his best highlights in them.
Philadelphia Eagles
11 of 14The classic kelly green Philadelphia Eagles uniforms are great and should be worn more often.
I'm not a huge fan of the modern day Eagles' uniforms and these are much better, in my opinion.
I love the wings on the helmet of these throwbacks, and the Eagles should no doubt change at least that part of their jersey.
New England Patriots
12 of 14The New England Patriots red throwback jerseys used to represent a long era of losing and unsuccessful seasons.
That has all changed now, as the Patriots have become one of the best teams the past two decades and have worn these red uniforms in many of their wins.
The red, white and blue color scheme are classic patriot colors and are a perfect fit for the team from New England.
Tennessee Titans
13 of 14The Tennessee Titans wear the Houston Oilers' throwback jerseys pretty often and they look great.
Seeing these jerseys about once or twice a year has part of me wishing the Oilers were still in Houston and playing in the light-blue-and-whites every week.
Chris Johnson breaking off an 80-yard touchdown run is made even more beautiful by these classic, old school jerseys.
San Diego Chargers
14 of 14The San Diego Chargers have the most recognizable throwback jersey in their "powder blue" uniforms.
The Chargers wore this jersey for a long part of their history and still wear it a few times a year, today.
The powder blues are classics and easily the greatest throwback jersey in NFL history.
