No Holliday for St. Louis Cardinals!

Dominick DiFucciNov 10, 2008

Any deal that would send Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday to the St. Louis Cardinals appears to be dead, according to published reports in two newspapers Sunday night.

When asked about a possible trade for the All-Star slugger, Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "That one's not happening—at all." Mozeliak told the paper that some of what has been reported has been "misleading, to say the least," and a source told the paper the Cards balked at the possible package that would go back to the Rockies.

The source, however, told the paper that talks could be resurrected. Cardinals right fielder Ryan Ludwick appeared prominently in reports, and Fox Sports reported on Friday that the Rockies were interested in outfielder Skip Schumaker and right-handed pitching prospect Mitchell Boggs.

Several teams have interest in Holliday, but Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told the Rocky Mountain News he didn't believe any deal was close to happening, but "things are fluid."
