WWE Fantasy Warfare: Punk vs Austin and 8 Matches Fans Would Love to See
The highly acclaimed video game WWE All Stars came out earlier this year. It gave fans an opportunity to play with superstars of the present and the past in an entreating high octane atmosphere.
Only here it would be possible for Andre the Giant to get in the ring with the Big Show. While playing the game yesterday, it gave me inspiration for this article.
In the spirit of fun let's play a game of fantasy warfare. This slideshow will take a look at a handful matches in no particular order that the fans would have loved to see.
Some of these matches involve superstars no longer with us, some that may be retired, as well as some current superstars.
Without further adieu lets get ready to rumble!
I only chose to include seven matches because I have seen some of these done before. I chose to choose some of the most high profile matches possible.
If you can think of any more matches, leave a comment in the section below.
8. Daniel Bryan vs Kurt Angle
1 of 9An overwhelming amount of comments prompted me to add this match.
Daniel Bryan and Kurt Angle would be a great match with both of these wrestlers at the top of their game. Kurt Angle was the quintessential performer during his day and he incorporated submission and technical wrestling with great ease and skill.
Daniel Bryan is starting his rise in the WWE. He is the current holder of the SmackDown! MITB briefcase. When he cashes in most likely he will win the World Heavyweight title.
Can you imagine taking the Labell Lock and putting it to the test with Kurt Angle and his Angle Lock?
This match would be amazing and thanks to the readers for bringing this to my attention !
7. Andre the Giant vs The Big Show
2 of 9This match is obviously a no-brainer. You have two of the largest men in the history of the WWE. Andre the Giant was the Eighth Wonder of the World and started his career going undefeated for almost 15 years inside a WWE ring. He would however lose some matches not sanctioned by the WWE.
His most famous match was at Wrestlemania III vs Hulk Hogan at the Pontiac Silverdome. It was here where Hogan famously lifted "The Giant" and body slammed him to the mat.
Andre the Giant was a great wrestler and had a good career.
Andre died in his sleep as a result to congestive heart failure on January 27, 1993.
The Big Show was first called the Giant when he got his start in WCW. In his first match he won the WCW World Heavyweight title. He was a great spectacle and wrestler in WCW.
When he came over to WWE he was dubbed "the largest athlete in sports entertainment."
In his career, Big Show is a WWE, WCW, ECW Champion, a multiple tag team champion, and a United States Champion.
This matchup would be great because you would have two of the greatest big men in the history of WWE. I don't know if a regulation ring would be able to hold these two men but we can all agree that this is a match everyone would want to see.
6. Sting vs The Undertaker
3 of 9Earlier this year we all thought the 2.21.11 promo was a sign that Sting was coming to the WWE. It looked so much like the vignette of Sting leading up to WCW Starcade in 1997.
However this was not meant to be and the fans all sighed and went on back to their normal lives.
Sting has gone through many incarnations throughout his prolific wrestling career. He is one of the greatest WCW Champions in all of history and was adored by many fans. He is known as "The Icon" and the man called Sting.
There was always a certain mystique about Sting especially during the days when he remained silent in WCW.
The Undertaker just in the same fashion has a certain mystique and aura about him. He is "The Deadman, The Phenom, and The Last Outlaw." There is no reason to explain what the Undertaker has done since you wouldn't be reading this unless you knew who he was.
These two men are larger than life and could feed well off each other. Sting and Undertaker both were great workers and moved well despite their builds.
If this match went down when both men where at their peak and prime, it would be an instant moneymaker.
5. Chris Jericho vs CM Punk
4 of 9I realize this match has happened before but CM Punk was a different character back then. He wasn't as hot as he was now.
When thinking about CM Punk and his shoot promos on Monday Night Raw, it reminds me of times in WCW where Chris Jericho was given roughly about a minute to speak his piece.
.Chris Jericho was the original "Best In The World". He was a solid technical wrestler, he was a high-flyer at times, he was well versed in the Mexican and Japanese styles and he was a great mic man.
Looking at CM Punk, I see some major similarities. When Punk debuted, his signature move was the Anaconda Vice, a technical move.
Jericho had the Walls of Jericho.
Punk would continue to evolve, and he would use his straight edge gimmick to prove how he was so much better than everyone else.
Jericho also always had swagger that made him likable and capable of working a crowd.
The two men are almost the same in their character and in their personalities. It would be a great match that everyone would love to see.
4. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs CM Punk
5 of 9I touched upon this yesterday in the piece where I explained how SCSA has said he wants to wrestle CM Punk if he returns to the ring.
These men would play off each other so well. Stone Cold is the guy the fans always love to see and CM Punk is the heel fans love to cheer.
Stone Cold is the rough and tough unorthodox brawler, CM Punk is the pompous refined straight edge superstar who uses finesse and skill to win his matches.
In this regard you have a great ying and yang element and it packs a lot of punch and combines a lot of star power.
This match could still happen but nonetheless it is a match that fans would kill to see.
If this match were to go down it would make a killing at the box office and we all know that VKM loves to see the money rolling in.
3. John Cena vs Hulk Hogan
6 of 9This match was inevitable regardless of how you feel about these wrestlers.
When people think of wrestling in general, Hulk Hogan is usually comes to mind. He was the biggest star during his day and captured the hearts of millions around the world. He had all the kids in the palm of his hand as they all took their vitamins and said their prayers.
He later would have a lengthy heel run in WCW as the leader of the N.W.O. and he wrote another chapter of his legacy there.
Barring his TNA days, Hulk Hogan is considered to be one of the best wrestlers of all time.
John Cena is arguably the Hulk Hogan of his day. He even reffered to it last night in a promo when he claimed, "Maybe I just took the hand off my ear and moved it in front of my face.... BROTHER!!!
Nonetheless, Cena vs Hogan would be as big of a matchup as Yankees vs Red Sox, Bird vs Magic, or Jordan vs LeBron.
In their primes and at their peak, Cena vs Hogan would be an amazing match to watch and would have the potential to generate a lot of buzz.
2. Triple H vs CM Punk
7 of 9It may seem that CM Punk is on the list a few times but it is for good reason. He is currently the hottest commodity in pro wrestling and many can imagine possible match ups involving The Straight Edge Superstar.
This match has been heavily alluded to on Monday Night Raw over the last few weeks. Triple H and CM Punk has gone back to back with verbal exchanges.
With Triple H officiating the WWE Championship match this Sunday at Summerslam it seems like something is going to be in the works for the future.
When you take the explosiveness of CM Punk and pair it with the massive ego of C.O.O Triple H, it makes for a surefire running feud and match.
This match could happen at one of the next pay per views and it would be a match that everyone would love to see.
1. Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena vs the Rock and CM Punk
8 of 9I can only imagine a Wrestlemania 28 card featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena vs The Rock and CM Punk. Those would be two mega matches in one.
Could you ever imagine all of the participants in one mega match?
Can you imagine a match like this going down on the final Raw before Wrestlemania? This would be a mega match considering it is free. On one hand you have Cena squaring off with his foe at Wrestlemania, The Rock, and his former foe CM Punk.
The same would apply for Stone Cold and the fans would really love to see another matchup of Austin vs the Rock.
The chances of this match happening are low and having it air for free on Raw are even lower. Nonetheless I think this would be a great way to lure in some older fans in time for the biggest event of the year.
