Fantasy Baseball: Jason Kipnis Is Saving the Indians, Could He Save Your Team?

Ross ZelenJun 7, 2018

In the two weeks since the Cleveland Indians promoted second baseman Jason Kipnis, the team has struggled and lost ground in the tight AL Central Division race. However, Kipnis has already had some memorable moments including a go-ahead two-run home run against Texas and has contributed more than his fair share thus far.

Kipnis, the 24-year-old out of Arizona State University, has been a new force in the Indians lineup, batting second and getting on base a lot for a rookie. With five home runs already, his power has given the top of the Indians order some confidence even as the bottom part of their lineup continues their months-long slump.

In only 56 plate appearances, Kipnis has seven extra-base hits and has gotten on base almost 20 times. Kipnis' solid and sweet swing has made excellent hard contact thus far, and he plays some superb defense as well. With his combination of power and speed (two stolen bases in only 14 games), Kipnis could save your fantasy team from having to trot out a subpar second baseman.

With many second basemen either underperforming or on the disabled list, such as the injured Rickie Weeks, Chone Figgins and Brian Roberts, Kipnis is widely available and a steal for his position. Especially if your team is in need of some extra power, Kipnis is going to knock some balls out of the Jake in Cleveland.

For the unfortunate owners of Ryan Raburn of the Detroit Tigers and Sean Rodriguez of the Tampa Bay Rays, Kipnis could save your season and give you the boost you need to make the fantasy baseball playoffs, which will be starting at the end of the month or beginning of September.

Jason Kipnis is gearing up for the postseason push, and by picking him up you can be too.
