WWE News, Día Del Rey (Day 14): Mysterio Injured, Is This Diary Cursed?

Alfred KonuwaJun 2, 2018

Big Nasty will be keeping a running diary of a major developing storyline involving legendary Luchador Rey Mysterio Jr.  Mysterio's contract is set to expire in early 2012, and WWE is reportedly looking to place major emphasis on the tenured superstar leading up to SummerSlam.

One cannot discuss the legacy of Rey Mysterio Jr. without the inclusion of injury.  With the perpetual size disadvantage working against him, Mysterio has always been prone to injury simply by stepping into the ring.

However an action packed, high flying style has caught up to Mysterio who is now battling his most recent in an unfortunate string of knee injuries.

Mysterio suffered a knee injury in a match against Alberto Del Rio in Salt Lake City, Utah.  While the knee injury was not considered serious, Mysterio was kept out of action as he was subsequently booked in injury angles for the remainder of WWE's live tour of the West Coast.

Mysterio is expected to be all systems go for SummerSlam, and word on the street is that Mysterio will be awaiting the winner of Cena-Punk II the night after SummerSlam in his hometown of San Diego, CA.

Mysterio's injury marks the second subject out of three subjects of these running diaries to suffer an injury, with the other being John Morrison.  The only subject to avoid the apparent diary-induced injuries is CM Punk, who at one point was on the precipice of legitimately leaving the WWE.  It's a little early to deem this running diary as cursed, but if Punk so much as pulls a groin this series is toast.

SAN JOSE, Ca.- August 8. Just six days out from SummerSlam, Rey Mysterio is still without a dance partner.  All signs point to the Miz, whose schedule continues to be mired in ubiquity, however nothing official has been announced.

Mysterio vs. Miz was announced as one of the top matches for the go-home RAW before SummerSlam.  Given Mysterio's injury situation and the fact that this will probably end up being a match at SummerSlam, it is highly likely that WWE books Mysterio out of this match to allow him to rest up for Sunday.

Right on cue, the Miz attacked Rey Mysterio Jr. as he made his way out to the arena.  A running boot to Mysterio's head up against the platform with the WWE logo on it meant the end of Mysterio's night.

Kofi Kingston would face Miz in an impromptu match.  During the match, it was officially announced that Mysterio would be getting his WWE Championship rematch against the winner of the SummerSlam main event between John Cena and CM Punk.

With Miz complaining of not having a SummerSlam match following his attack of Mysterio, it's almost academic that a Miz-Mysterio match will be announced via WWE.com or before the end of the night.
