UFC 133 Results: Rashad Evans and 5 Fighters Who Could Defeat Jon Jones
Last night Rashad Evans turned in arguably the most impressive performance of his career, demolishing Tito Ortiz in route to a second round TKO.
With the win Evans finally earned his long awaited title shot and is guaranteed the winner of the Light Heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Rampage Jackson, at UFC 135 in September.
Evans has been waiting months to get his hands on Jones, who has quickly become the hottest fighter in the sport.
After his performance last night, it looks like Evans has a very good chance at defeating the 24-year-old phenom, a feat that has been deemed impossible by many mixed martial arts fans.
This list is comprised of Evans and five other fighters who have a legitimate chance of defeating the current 205-pound champion.
Rashad Evans
1 of 6Jones’ former friend and training partner has a legitimate hatred towards him, which spawned soon after Jones accepted a title shot in Evans' place at UFC 128.
The two had sworn to put their friendship above their title aspirations, but once it seemed likely that Jones would win himself the belt he seemed less opposed to a fight with Evans, which angered Rashad.
Evans has the wrestling to keep Jones at bay and his stand up has improved in nearly every fight, which makes the fight even more intriguing.
Lyoto Machida
2 of 6As long as Machida can keep the fight on the feet, he has as good of a chance as anyone to take out "Bones."
Machida is famous for his ability to deliver punishment while being nearly impossible to hit, which makes him one of the most dangerous fighters at 205.
It would be interesting to see how Jones’ 84-inch reach would effect Machida’s in and out striking, as he would have to get inside punching distance in order to slug it out with the champion.
Dan Henderson
3 of 6The current Strikeforce and former Pride champion, Henderson has been putting opponents to sleep for over a decade with his trademark right hand, which is affectionately called the "H-Bomb."
Henderson has a solid wrestling background, which may make it hard for Jones to work the ground and pound that he has become known for, and his incredible power in his hands makes it possible to put "Bones" to sleep at any moment.
Rampage Jackson
4 of 6Jones’ next opponent is extremely dangerous.
Although Jackson is somewhat predictable due to his tendency to only throw punches, he has dynamite in both hands and can end the fight in an instant.
Rampage also has some seriously underrated wrestling ability that he showed off in his last fight, where he kept Matt Hamill from getting the fight to the ground on about a dozen takedown attempts.
Anderson Silva
5 of 6The pound for pound king hasn’t gone up to 205 lbs. in over two years, but a fight with Jones might be too good to pass up.
While Jones would have a huge advantage in the wrestling department, Silva has shown some incredible ju jitsu off his back, and Jones has a tendency to leave his limbs exposed during ground and pound.
Throw in Silva’s claim as the best striker in MMA history and Jones would be in significant danger, no matter where the fight went.
Cain Velasquez
6 of 6It has been said that Jones would have to travel up to heavyweight in the next few years due to his ever growing frame, and it is possible that current champion Velasquez could be waiting for him when he gets there.
Velasquez has shown that he is a dominant wrestler and his stand up is getting better daily at American Kickboxing Academy.
If Jones is able to keep winning until he moves up to heavyweight, this could end up being the biggest fight in MMA history.
