Predicting How the Vikings, Titans and Top 4 New-Look QB Teams Will Do

Mick AkersJun 7, 2018

The NFL free agency period has seen it's fair share of quarterbacks changing teams this summer, and now that the dust is starting to settle it is now time to predict just how well the teams with newly acquired quarterbacks will do this season.

From Donovan McNabb to Kevin Kolb and the rest of the quarterbacks who are expected to start, some teams stock will rise, while others will fall this year. These teams include the Arizona Cardinals, the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans.

Here are my predictions on how the four NFL teams with the best new-look starting quarterbacks will fair this year.

Minnesota Vikings-Donovan McNabb

1 of 4

With seasoned veteran Donovan McNabb stepping-in at starting quarterback this season, the Vikings season is looking to be a better one than last year and all of the Brett Favre drama.

Although the Vikings lost their best receiver in Sidney Rice, McNabb still has plenty of quality players to target this season.

Percy Harvin is set to have a great year after having a season hindered with severe migraine problems. In 14 games last season Harvin racked up 71 receptions for 868 yards and five touchdowns.

Add in newly acquired Michael Jenkins to the mix who racked up 41 receptions, with 505 yards and two touchdowns with the Atlanta Falcons last year, and the Vikings have a pretty solid one-two punch at wide receiver.

With Adrian Peterson in the backfield, his explosive running ability will help open-up the field for McNabb and company, giving more opportunities for big-time plays down the field.

In all I feel the Vikings will be a borderline playoff team in the NFC, with a record around 9-7.

Arizona Cardinals-Kevin Kolb

2 of 4

The Arizona acquiring Kevin Kolb in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles gives the Cardinals—a team with four different quarterbacks taking snaps last season—stability at the quarterback position this season after a dreadful 5-11 record last year.

Kolb come into a offense with one of the best receiver in the game on-board in Larry Fitzgerald but not much else in the way of receiver talent.

Fitzgerald had 91 receptions for 1,1137 yards, and six touchdowns last season, amid all the QB turmoil in Arizona. With Kolb behind center this year expect his TD count to rise, giving the Cardinals a much needed boost in scoring the ball.

The Cardinals just signed former Arizona State star Todd Heap to a deal, and he will serve as Kolb's second best option in my opinion.

Heap 40 receptions for 599 yards and five touchdowns last season playing for the Baltimore Ravens. Look for Heaps numbers to be fairly consistent with his numbers last season, as Ravens QB Joe Flacco targeted him quite frequently.

Look for the Cardinals record to improve but not by much on the first season, as Arizona is need of some more help at wide receiver, and Fitzgerald, as talented as he is can't shoulder all the weight himself.

I predict the Cardinals to have a two-game improvement from last season, finishing the 2011 season at 7-9.

Tennessee Titans-Matt Hasselbeck

3 of 4

The Tennessee Titans released troubled quarterback Vince Young (who was later picked-up by the Philadelphia Eagles) and went in a new direction by signing veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck to lead to the Titans in 2011.

As Titans rookie Jake Locker will sit back and learn from Hasselbeck for at least this season, Hasselbeck and the Titans can have a successful season.

Hasselbeck threw for 3,001 yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 17 interceptions last season with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Titans leading receiver, Kenny Britt has had his share of offseason troubles this past year and the Titans better hope they don't carry over into his game this year.

Britt had a great 2010 season with 42 receptions for 775 yards and nine big touchdowns. Getting anywhere near those numbers this season will give the Titans a serious shot at being a contender in the AFC.

Nate Washington, the Titans No.2 receiver had 42 receptions for 683 yards, and six touchdowns last season.  Washington and Britt can combine to be one of the better wide receiver combos in the AFC, and will serve as great weapons for Hasselbeck this year.

The Titans will also have a solid two player combo at tight end as well with Bo Scaife and Jared Cook. The two tight ends combined for 679 yards on 65 receptions, with five touchdowns.

With one of the more dynamic runners in the NFL on Hasselbeck's side in Chris Johnson, the Titans better hope that his lockout does not roll in to next season. If it does, the offense will struggle at time s with out Johnson there to spread out the field, and provide a spark for the offense when the passing game is struggling.

Johnson was also the Titans leader in receptions at 44 in 2011, which he turned into 245 yards and one touchdown.

I think the Titans will have similar success as they did last year, and finish with a record of 11-5, and a solid playoff pick.

Seattle Seahawks-Tarvaris Jackson

4 of 4

Tarvaris Jackson comes to the Seattle Seahawks expected to take over for former quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

After spending the 2010 season playing behind Brett Favre with the Minnesota Vikings, Jackson should be ready to take on a starting job this season for Seattle.

Jackson played in just three games last season (starting one), and compiled 341 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 34 oh his 58 pass attempts.

Jackson will have his former teammate Sidney Rice as his No.1 receiver, which will help the inexperienced Jackson ease into his starting role.

Rice only played in three games last season due to injury, and had 17 receptions for 280 yards and two touchdowns in those three games.

If Rice stays healthy this season he should have around 1,00 yards and anywhere between 8-12 touchdowns.

Another key addition to the Seahawks is former Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller. Miller was the Raiders leading receiver last year with 60 receptions for 685 yards and five touchdowns. Miller will most likely be the around No.2 in receptions for the Seahawks as their other receivers just don't get enough done.

The two receivers that do the most for Seattle is the duo of Mike Williams and Deon Butler who combined for 1,136 yards and six touchdowns in 2010. The two will compete for the No.2 spot, but getting as much as they did out of them last season coupled with the addition of Rice and Miller should be enough to get them back into the playoffs out of the NFC West.

I predict their record to be three wins better than last season, with the Seahawks ending at 10-6.
