Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather: 4 Reasons We Don't Care Anymore
With the years and years of talk about a possible Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather super fight and no luck in getting the fight set up, I wondered why do we even care about the fight anymore?
With all the talk and no action over the past couple of years, it just seems like the fight is less likely to take place as more and more time passes us by.
Here are the four reasons that we really don't care about the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather match-up anymore.
1. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather Have Interesting Fights on the Horizon
1 of 4With Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather both set to have interesting fights coming up before the end of this year, it got me thinking about why do we even care anymore about Pacquiao vs. Mayweather?
Pacquiao's rubber match against Juan Manuel Marquez is an intriguing fight because out of the last few years, Pacquiao has not been tested as much as he has against Marquez in their two previous fights.
Fighting to a draw and a split decision in the two previous fights—which took place in 2004 and 2008 respectively—Marquez has what it takes to give Pacquiao his first loss in over six years.
Mayweather's fight in September against Victor Ortiz is also good, which could yield some surprising results.
The fight pits an undefeated, future hall of famer against an up-and-coming 24-year-old WBC champion.
Mayweather is coming off over a year with no fights, and is going up against a young and hungry fighter looking to beat one of boxing's marquee names to set his career into another level.
2. We Are over the Excuses
2 of 4No matter how close we ever got to having the fight signed and ready to go, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather always seemed to come up with an excuse to not give the fight the green light.
From all the various drug testing excuses to the lawsuit about defamation, we have heard more excuses than a 10-year-old kid has to why he has not cleaned his room in over a month.
With all the excuses that have been thrown out, it becomes stale and annoying to hear what they can come up with next to divert what could be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.
3. Possible Match Up with Amir Khan Looms
3 of 4After Amir Khan's quick work of former champion Zab Judah, all anyone could talk about after the fight was a possible jump up in weight for Khan to take on either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao sometime in 2012.
Khan pitted up against either Pacquiao or Mayweather would be a top quality fight that would attract millions of viewers, with any of the fighters having just as good of a shot to beat one-another.
Khan has proved all his doubters wrong, and has had an impressive string of fights as of late, which would lead anyone to believe he stands a real chance at beating either Pacquiao or Mayweather as anyone else in boxing.
4. The Fight Can't Possibly Live Up to the Hype
4 of 4If the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight were to ever take place, it would be nearly impossible for the fight to actually live up to the tremendous hype that has been put around this fight over the past few years.
The hype surrounding the fight has basically become bigger than the actual fight it's self, which takes some luster away from the fight.
If the fight ever does get off the ground, the only way the fight could possibly even come close to living up to the lofty expectations created by the yep, would be to have a blow-for-blow, multiple knock down, bloody fight that one of the two fighters wins by knockout in one of the latter rounds of the contest.
With the opposing styles Pacquiao and Mayweather posses, the possibility of that kind of super entertaining fight is almost guaranteed not to take place.
