NFL Signings 2011: 5 Roster Moves the Kansas City Chiefs Could Still Make
The current NFL free agency period is now heading into the stretch run.
Last week saw the Kansas City Chiefs net three solid free agents in WR Steve Breaston, DT Kelly Gregg and ILB Brandon Siler.
This week, they look to continue to be active and fill more holes on their team as they prepare for the 2011 season.
Here are five free agents that they could sign very soon.
Sign FB Le'ron McClain
1 of 5The Chiefs have been rumored to have interest in McClain for quite some time, but now is the time to get the deal done with the former Ravens back.
He would provide another weapon for the KC offense, and is known to be a great blocker as well.
Adding McClain with a running back like Jamaal Charles would easily give the Chiefs the best rushing offense in the league again in 2011.
Look for McClain to be in KC soon.
Sign OT Max Starks
2 of 5One of the Chiefs' most glaring weakness over the past few seasons has been at the right tackle position.
Player after player has tried to lock down that spot over the years, but no one has been successful in recent memory.
Current starter Barry Richardson is no exception, as he struggles mightily in pass protection and threw a fit during a game last season when he was asked to come out.
Former Steelers veteran Max Starks could be the man that KC is looking for to provide a stopgap at that spot over the next few years.
He is a much more accomplished blocker than Richardson, and would immediately bolster the right side of Kansas City's offensive line going forward.
Sign Another Pass Rusher for the Defense
3 of 5Last season, the Chiefs had one of the better pass rushes in AFC, led by veteran linebacker Tamba Hali's 14.5 sacks on the year.
This offseason, they look to upgrade this area, as they will be playing a much tougher schedule this season.
A player to watch out for is veteran Matt Roth, who is only 28 and could come in and start opposite Tamba Hali this year.
Either way, I see the Chiefs bringing in another pass rusher to add to this young and talented defense.
Sign a Veteran QB
4 of 5It's clear that the Chiefs don't have a solid veteran QB to back up starter Matt Cassel right now.
Taking a look at the depth chart, journeyman Tyler Palko and rookie Ricky Stanzi are the only two other quarterbacks on KC's roster.
Enter former Chief and 17-year NFL vet Todd Collins.
Not only is he one of only a handful of veteran QBs available, but he's a guy that can come off the bench if Cassel gets hurt who has had some experience playing in big games in the past.
Sign Another Veteran Defensive Back
5 of 5Right now, the Chiefs are a little thin at the safety position.
Behind starters Kendrick Lewis and Eric Berry, they have only veteran Jon McGraw who possess major experience at the spot on the field.
Adding a veteran safety like Brodney Pool would not only help KC's depth in that area, but he could also challenge Lewis for a starting position as well.
At the very least, he could give the team a solid backup safety for a while.
