WWE Divas: What Beth Phoenix Turning Heel Means for the Divas Roster

On Monday Night RAW, the Divas had a battle royal to determine the new No. 1 contender for the Divas Title, currently held by Kelly Kelly.

After a lengthy battle, one that included an uncharacteristic commercial break, Beth Phoenix emerged victorious.  After the match, Kelly Kelly came into the ring to congratulate her SummerSlam opponent.

Phoenix embraced Kelly for a moment, and then attacked her.  A new heel was born on the Divas roster, and she is poised to get her first Divas Championship.  She previously held the Women's Championship three times, so she is not new to the title scene.

So what does this all mean for the WWE Divas?

A New Champion at SummerSlam

Let's be honest. As over as Kelly Kelly is, her being the Divas Champion isn't good for the company.  She might have excellent drawing power and decent in-ring skills, but giving the belt to someone like Beth Phoenix will do justice.

Once Phoenix becomes champion, she will be able to face many different girls and have some good matches.  We have had to see title matches on PPV that wouldn't have made TV a few years ago.

That being said, the Divas haven't had much luster since Trish and Lita left. I mean, when was the last time you were excited for a Divas match on a PPV?  Not because you are a fan of the face performing, but because you legitimately had chills thinking about how good a match it could be?

Nobody Is Safe

Much like when Kharma was dominant and powerful, Beth Phoenix has the same capabilities.  As a heel, Phoenix can pick apart every Diva on RAW, and that Diva doesn't have to be as unaware as Kelly was on Monday.

Once Phoenix wins the belt, she will be able to go between RAW and SmackDown and pulverize every Diva on the WWE roster.

Until...

Natalya vs. Beth Phoenix Feud

When Beth Phoenix returned from her torn ACL last fall, she formed an alliance with then-Divas Champion Natalya.

That was until Phoenix was drafted to RAW.  With Phoenix on the brink of winning the Divas Title, can you imagine what Beth and Natalya could do for the division by entering into a lengthy feud?

Both of them have legitimate wrestling skills and could put on a great series of matches if they really tried.

This could bring back that luster that was missing from the Divas division for so long.

Compared to some of the girls working for TNA, the WWE Divas aren't exactly the measuring stick for womens wrestling anymore.  Don't believe me? Take a look at this and tell me, for a global phenomenon, the WWE doesn't have enough resources to sign half of that list.  Hopefully this proposed feud could be a step in the right direction.

Now if they could only revamp the tag-team division...
