Dan Henderson Says He Wants to Face Jon Jones or Quinton Jackson
At 40 years old, Dan Henderson has seemingly done it all in mixed martial arts.
Following his victory over Fedor Emelianenko this past weekend, it is safe to include Henderson in the conversation as of one the greatest MMA fighters of all time.
Now that his contract with Strikeforce has expired, Henderson is looking to turn his attention to the UFC one last time.
According to TheTelegraph.co.uk, Henderson said he is interested in the winner of UFC 125's main event between Jon Jones and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
“I think that could be interesting going forward, a unification fight with the winner of that contest would be a good match,” Henderson said.
Since departing from the UFC in 2009, Henderson has found new success in Strikeforce. Despite losing to Jake Shields in his debut, Henderson rebounded with three straight wins, including capturing the organization's light heavyweight title. After finishing Emelianenko, the former Olympic wrestler is not showing any signs of slowing down and is now the new American hero for fans to call upon in Randy Couture's absence.
If he is to return to the UFC, Henderson said he will compete in the 205-pound division and not move back down to 185 pounds for a potential rematch with UFC Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.
“I’m not really looking to go back to middleweight. I’m happy at light-heavyweight. It’s where I feel most comfortable," he said.
A unification bout could likely be on the horizon for the 40-year-old and facing either Jones or Jackson would likely be his last chance at holding another championship. Given his age, Henderson will not likely compete much longer, but while he still can, it is appropriate at this stage of his career that he is looking for the most intriguing bouts possible.
