Terrelle Pryor Rumors: Is Kyle Orton Trade Dead If Pryor Goes to Miami Dolphins?
The Miami Dolphins seem quite determined to begin preparations for life in the post-Chad Henne era.
They have been rumored all week to be working with the Denver Broncos on a trade that would bring Kyle Orton to South Beach.
Orton has had two very good years with the Broncos, throwing for a combined 41 TDs and over 7,400 yards.
Orton is expendable because the team decided to go with Tim Tebow during the last three games of the 2010 regular season and will start the 2010 1st round NFL draft pick in the upcoming season.
Orton is due $8.8 million this coming season so he will either hold a clipboard for that ludicrous amount of cash or find himself on a new team with (most likely) a restructured, longer deal.
There was a stronger market for Orton when the lockout lifted, but a number of teams have made deals to address their quarterback situation.
The Cardinals, Vikings and Titans all made moves for veteran QB’s and limited his potential landing destinations. The Dolphins are perhaps the only team that still makes sense on paper.
Orton may not even have a likely home in Miami anymore though, now that word has come out that the team may be trying to snap up Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft if he becomes eligible.
The Dolphins seemingly love to give roster spots to athletic QBs who don’t have a traditional NFL skill set and Pryor fits this mold.
Pat White was drafted by the team in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft and turned out to be a huge bust. Pryor may just turn out the same and Mike Florio agrees, stating,
"“Pryor will be a project at best in 2011, especially since he already is far behind where he’d be if he’d been drafted in a normal year. But in a quarterback-hungry league, it’s hard to imagine no one taking a flyer on him.”
"
I still think that the Dolphins could use Orton, but with Matt Moore and Chad Henne both under contract, the team has to decide between taking a high-risk high-reward chance on Pryor or a sure thing, low upside Orton deal.
