Haider-Maurer, Andreev Strong Wins at Credit Agricole Suisse Open
Defending champion and last week's finalist, Nicolas Almagro, leads up the draw at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad in Switzerland. He and the top seeds received byes on Monday.
The highest-ranked play of the day, World No. 70Andreas Haider-Maurerdemolished qualifier Yann Marti 6-1, 6-4 in 63 minutes.
He won 83 percent of his first serve and won four of four break point opportunities.
Making it to the finals of the clay court tournaments twice before, World No. 78 Igor Andreev defeated Mischa Zverev of Germany 6-3, 6-2. He will play eighth- seed Marcel Granollers or wildcard Stephane Bohli next.
He was able to benefit from his serve and was able to push his opponent to nine break-point opportunities while converting three.
Andreev lost in 2004 to Roger Federer and in 2008 to Victor Hansecu, who is in the draw.
Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan took two hours to beat Austrian qualifier Martin Fischer 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. He will play third-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who he has a winning 1-0 record against.
The player, ranked 80th in the world, saved 75 percent of break points and hit five aces but the World No. 198 had a greater first serve percentage.
He may find a challenge from clay-court players Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Santiago Giraldo.
Last by not least, native qualifier Alexander Sadecky, who is 401th in the world, hit 14 aces to defeat higher-ranked Peter Luczak 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Seven games will get on court on Tuesday including Victor Hanescu and Feliciano Lopez.
