Wake Up Met Fans

Congratulation Philadelphia Phillies for pulling off the improbable and winning a World Series. How long has it been 25 years or more? It's important that we say this because Mets Fans, who haven't watched their team douse themselves with champagne since 1986, are going crazy. In fact, there beyond crazy, "They're Insane!" as a famous television commercial once suggested. And why? It's because they can't get past the last two seasons of failing to make the playoffs. Okay, now hear this Met fans, the Mets failed not because they were an inferior team but because they suffered key injuries to key personnel at the most inappropiate time in their season. GOT IT! Two years ago at crunch time they lost both Pedro Martinez and hot hitting Damien Easley. This year, they lost Billy Wagner and hot hitting Fernando Tatis. Ironically both Easley and Tatis were injured in freak accidents in Washington one year apart. But consider this, what teams has won a World Series without a closer? Remember the Yankees in their heyday, or the Bad Boys of Cincinnati? Or how about the White Sox just a few years back with a kid named Bobby Jenks? Billy Wagner's untimely injury was the killer for The Mets. And the sad part is that Met fan knew it the day his injury was announced. So why are they acting surprised that their team couldn't hold onto first place? Flash to Met fans! THE METS DIDN'T HAVE A CLOSER THEY HAD A COMMITTEE! And you don't win World Series, League or Division Championships with a committee! Especially one as bad as the Mets committee! Take Brad Lidge away from Philadelphia and see how far they get. Take Jonathan Papelbon from the Red Sox and see how far they get or Francisco Rodriguez from the Angels. Wake up Met fans! Billy Wagner's injury WAS THE DAGGER! And the only way to recover from a stabbing this severe is to find another closer. Getting rid of GM Omar Minaya as some have suggested is not the answer. Minaya has brought the Mets Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado, Johan Santana...and yes, he gave up Scott Kazmir and Xavier Nady...but C'mon! What The Mets need is a corner outfielder, 2 starters, an arm or two in the bullpen, and (Say it with me) A CLOSER! If they can find these pieces, we'll see who'll be sipping champagne next year!
