Wladimir Klitschko Haters Probably Won't Get Their Wish on Saturday, July 2nd

Brian MaziqueJun 30, 2011

I wouldn’t describe myself as a Wladimir Klitschko hater, I just detest this era of pitiful heavyweights.  With the exception of the Klitschkos, none of the other heavyweights under the age of 40 would even sniff the title in a more competitive era.

Wladimir is a physically gifted athlete with questionable heart, which he has been able to hide since the Lamon Brewster fight.  His constant assault and vicious power conceals his biggest weaknesses.

Vitali is far tougher, but not as physically gifted as Wladimir.  If you could combine the two, then you’d have one of the truly great heavyweights of all time.  As of now, neither of them would make my top 50 heavyweights of all time, and i would struggle to place them in my top 75.

With all that said, Wladimir Klitschko will probably beat the hell out of David Haye on Saturday night.  Why?  Though Haye has explosive power and great toughness, I don’t think he's capable of overcoming the physical and technical advantages that Wladimir possesses over him.

6’7" over 6’3" is a lot to overcome, especially when the 6’7" guy is a proficient jabber and throws punches effectively from different angles.  At 6’3", Haye would need better head movement and a significant speed advantage.

I believe he is the quicker of the two, but I’m not sure it is good enough to offset the length, accuracy and power of Klitschko.  Haye will have a bit more than a puncher's chance in this fight.

He is quick, strong and tough, but I expect him to be bloodied by the fifth round and possibly KO’d by the seventh.  Klitschko haters will have to wait on the next contender to the brothers’ throne.  This will most likely come from big puncher, Robert Helenius.

While Eastern Europe will be up in arms for this type of bout, boxing fans stateside and in England may have a long wait for a heavyweight champion.
