WWE's CM Punk Should Accept Jim Rome's Offer to Appear on His Radio Show

Adam WellsJun 30, 2011

The wrestling world has had three days to digest CM Punk's amazing promo at the end of RAW on Monday night. When the promo first aired, it was one of the most shocking and surreal things that we have ever heard in WWE.

Now, three days later, the promo still has the same affect when you watch it because fans are not accustomed to hear anything like it.

One wrestling fan who has been enamored by this whole thing is Jim Rome, who has used significant time on his ESPN show, Jim Rome is Burning, and radio show to break down the promo.

He has also invited CM Punk onto the radio show to discuss the promo, among other things.

"

Jim Rome on the air brought up the Punk promo and said he believed it was legitimate and wanted to get Punk to do his show to tell him what he was going to say when they cut off the mic...(Rome) said he believed it to be real but with WWE you never know, but he said working in entertainment it is frowned upon to blast corporate partners (which is why he thought it was real was the crappy shows on USA Network line).

"

This is a great opportunity that Punk and WWE need to capitalize on before it is too late and Rome figures out that the whole thing was for the most part a work.

Rome's radio show reaches a national audience of around two million listeners every single day and WWE is riding its best angle in years.

The whole would have to be handled much in the same way that the promo was handled; WWE can't get over-involved with Punk. He has to be given the freedom to talk like he did on Monday night without a lot of scripting and coaching by Vince McMahon.

Allowing Punk to do this would bring even more publicity to the whole angle, and if done correctly, WWE could add even more buys to the Money In the Bank show than it did on Monday.

I doubt that WWE will actually give Punk the freedom to do this because Vince McMahon likes to control everything, and he won't have any control over what Rome asks. But McMahon also knows what's good for business—he hears all the chatter going on about this promo right now, so if he thinks that he can help his financial portfolio by having Punk appear on Rome's show, he will do it.

Punk is a hot commodity right now. WWE has a hot angle for the first time since the Nexus angle last year and Rome wants to give WWE 45 minutes of free publicity. It's a win-win-win for all parties involved.
