Kimbo Slice: Former Youtube Star and MMA Fighter to Enter the Squared Circle

Henry MartinJun 29, 2011

Kimbo Slice went from being a bodyguard for the adult industries to being a backyard brawler and then an MMA fighter who ended up being a huge disappointment, to now being a professional boxer.

You read that right; former backyard brawling sensation Slice plans on moving into the world of boxing to “dominate” the heavyweight division. According to ESPN, his first fight will be on Aug. 13  at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla..

Gary Shaw, his promoter, believed that Slice has the strength and power to have an opportunity to make himself a name in a fairly weak heavyweight division. Shaw also said that Kimbo thought about walking into the squared circle last year, but didn’t have his heart in it 100 percent and decided not to go through with it

Well, that’s tough luck for Kimbo. Kimbo’s already 37 years old and he isn’t getting any younger. In Kimbo’s last fight, he was embarrassed by Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 who TKO’d Kimbo via punches.

Lately though, it seems as if boxing is an afterthought in most athletes' minds, that they can just easily enter the ring and dominate their opponents because of their physical size and strength. I say this because of Ray Edwards' comments about being in the ranks of Muhammad Ali and Nate Diaz, thinking he could easily dominate in boxing like he did in MMA.

No doubt Kimbo will be able to dominate his first opponent, as they won’t put him in with anybody who has any chance of even beating or even hurting him. He’ll most likely have more power than technique in his game going into the fight Aug. 13 like Edwards did in his first professional fight.

Whether that be the case though, people will want to see him fight whether he wins or loses. If he can generate interest in the heavyweight division and look good while doing it, then that’s a thumbs up in my book.
