Folks around baseball, however, know just how accomplished a player Gamel is. To that end, it was not much of a surprise when it was announced on Wednesday that the former fourth-round selection was named as the 21st annual J.G. Taylor Spink Award winner, emblematic of the Topps/Minor League Player of the Year.

• The Brewers made their first move of the offseason, picking up third baseman Casey McGehee off waivers from the Cubs. Joe Dillon was designated for assignment.
• Speaking of minor leaguers, Rattler Radio reveals some of Baseball America’s 2008 Draft Report Card for the Brewers.
• Ken Rosenthal, of Fox Sports, has heard the rumors of a Brewers offer of 4 years/$100 million for CC Sabathia too. He calls the possible contract offer “stunning,” but says it likely won’t be enough to lock up the big lefty.
• Brad Del Barba, a Brewers scout, shares some stories from when he scouted Corey Hart while Corey was a high schooler. Hopefully Hart still has the same tenacious attitude and can turn things around next season after a very rough second half last season.
