WWE: 5 Rivalries That Should Follow Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart on DVD

Adam WellsJun 27, 2011

There are some sports rivalries that transcend the sport itself. Wrestling has had a few of those rivalries, but the most intense rivalry of all time was between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

These two men were two of the best workers in WWE back in the early- to mid-90's, but they couldn't stand each other. It wasn't a work, either. These two legitimately hated each other.

The rivalry came to a head at the 1997 Survivor Series with the infamous "Montreal Screwjob" in which Vince McMahon called for the bell after Michaels put Hart in a sharpshooter. That was not the planned finish, and after the event was over Hart gave McMahon a black eye in the back.

Michaels and Hart made up in January 2010 when Hart made his return to WWE 12 years after the Screwjob. And now, according to Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross, these two will get their own DVD release chronicling the history of their rivalry.

This got us thinking about some of the other WWE rivalries that we would like to see immortalized with a DVD release. There are a lot of great options to choose from, but we narrowed the list down to five.

Without further ado, here are the wrestling rivalries that should get their own DVD release.

*For the record, some of these are just based on the rivalry told on screen and not necessarily indicative of backstage problems between the two wrestlers.

Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior

1 of 5

I won't lie, this rivalry would not even have been in the discussion for this list if it wasn't for what's been going on between them on Twitter and YouTube over the last few weeks.

Hulk Hogan was the biggest wrestling star of the 1980's, and arguably the biggest star in the history of wrestling. He was the perfect character for his time.

Ultimate Warrior came along in the late-80's and was pushed as the guy who would take over for Hogan in the early-90's. He even beat Hogan for the WWF championship at Wrestlemania 6. He never lived up to that hype and his career stalled after that victory.

These two have no love lost for each other, obviously, and it would make for a compelling DVD that would give us a little insight into why everything fell apart for Warrior and what role Hogan may or may not have played in his failure.

The Rock vs Triple H

2 of 5

One of the great wrestling rivalries of the 1990's was The Rock vs Triple H. In fact, the ladder match between these two men is what launched them into the stratosphere of WWE performers.

They weren't exactly friendly behind the scenes, it wasn't anything major like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, but it would still make for compelling television. WWE could easily fill two or three hours with all of the matches that they worked together and some of the drama that occurred backstage.

Chris Jericho vs Bill Goldberg

3 of 5

Bill Goldberg was one of the great WWE flops of all-time. He should have been a star given his popularity in WCW, but instead he was made to look like a joke. It's not hard to figure out why he left the company in 2004.

One of the more legendary backstage wrestling brawls was between Chris Jericho and Bill Goldberg in 2003. This feud dates back to their time in WCW when Goldberg was not very high on working a program with Jericho. Y2J tried to talk to Goldberg about it, but the two men ended up throwing down in fisticuffs.

They didn't have a long on-screen feud, but with all the personal animosity, and Jericho's ability to talk, would make this a must-see.

Vince McMahon vs Bruno Sammartino

4 of 5

If you are looking for the biggest reason why no one really takes the WWE Hall of Fame seriously, the fact that Bruno Sammartino is not included is it.

Sammartino may have been a bigger draw than Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin in his prime, He was the biggest star of the old WWWF back in the 1950's and 60's.

Since leaving WWE in 1988, Sammartino has openly criticzed McMahon for the direction that he has taken the business and the fact that he looked the other way during when all the steroids and performance enhancing drugs were running rampant throughout wrestling in the 1980's and 90's.

It will likely be a cold day in Hell before we ever see Sammartino do anything with Vince McMahon ever again.

Vince McMahon vs Eric Bischoff

5 of 5

WWE gave us a little taste of what this one would be like with the release of the "Monday Night Wars"  DVD in 2004, though WWE conveniently left out large portions of the rivalry off the set.

This is the one rivalry that could match Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart in intensity and personal hatred of each other.

Bischoff made no secret about the fact that he wanted to put McMahon out of business when he took over WCW in the 90's.

McMahon took great pleasure in being able to hire Bischoff to work for him in 2002 and humiliating him whenever he got the chance. To get a true behind the scenes look at what went on between these two men would make for a great release detailing one of the most important times in wrestling history.
