MLB Power Rankings: The 10 Softest Players in the Majors
I'm not positive on what the appropriate definition of softest is for this. If it is the most cuddly, definitely Pablo Sandoval. If it is about who has the softest hands, possibly Alex Rodriguez but I wouldn't know for sure.
One thing to consider is a player who folds under pressure, injures easily or just can't seem to get it together for an entire season.
With that very vague and rough definition in place let's take a look at the 10 softest players in the majors.
Pablo Sandoval
1 of 10Whether he's swinging way too hard at a pitch out of the zone, lumbering after a ball at third or finding a way to land himself on the DL by holding his bat wrong, there are plenty of reasons to consider Pablo Sandoval soft.
And its not just because of his cuddliness.
Just watch a single at bat of his, if he misses the first pitch, he'll always find a way to flail himself back to the dugout.
Rich Harden
2 of 10I like the guy, but how many pitchers have missed as many games as Rich Harden.
As a starter the most games he's ever started is 31, that was in 2004. Since then he's had seasons of 22, 9, 7, 25, 13, 12, 26, 20 and zero in 2011.
He is a tremendous talent, but it doesn't look like he'll be able to put together an entire season of health anytime in the near future.
Alex Rodriguez
3 of 10He's just wayy too over-hyped for an okay player these days.
Who gets that offended by being shown on TV at the Super Bowl. I mean popcorn is good but he really couldn't find a way to feed it to himself.
This might be a bit of a Yankee hater pick, but I seriously doubt most Yankees fans wouldn't agree that Alex Rodriguez is a bit of a primadonna.
Carlos Zambrano
4 of 10Carlos Zambrano is like mount Vesuvius ready to blow.
Now soft isn't the perfect way to describe a volcano but it seems appropriate for Zambrano. One pitch out of zone or one comment from a teammate or if a fan gives him a bad look, Carlos seems to always be on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
Can't help that plays for the team with the longest championship drought.
Prince Fielder
5 of 10Prince Fielder is another member of over eater club.
He's a great power hitter but there's a reason he was passed over by so many clubs on draft day.
He's a BIG liability going into his contract year. You can bet on the fact that he'll probably be putting on a few pounds next off season after he signs his monster contract.
Hanley Ramirez
6 of 10Soft, lazy they're kinda the same right?
He's an immense talent, but especially this year he's been rather distracted by something. I don't know what it is, but it keeps him from playing like he's able to.
Ramirez has been benched for not running out routine plays and looks lost whenever he's interacting with teammates and coaches.
Jonathan Sanchez
7 of 10They might be naming a cocktail after Jonathan Sanchez, call it the walk.
He's leading the league in walks and getting distracted with a runner on base. It seems every game that Sanchez pitches fine until someone gets on.
Once their is a base-runner he becomes so possessed, that he walks the bases loaded before giving up a run scoring hit.
His career is at a cross roads and he's going to need to toughen up soon if he wants to survive in the majors.
Scott Kazmir
8 of 10He's not even in the majors anymore but Scott Kazmir needs to be mentioned.
I don't know if he forgot how to pitch or got confused about the rules. But Kazmir seems to think that higher numbers are better when it comes to walks, losses and ERA.
Kazmir is currently sitting at home taking a big check and not pitching, sounds like a good gig to me.
Jonathan Broxton
9 of 10Another Jonathan for the list. Broxton suffers from both pillow like softness as well as bouts of wildness. Maybe it's his small frame and overstuffed turkey appearance, but Broxton can't seem to get it together. Ever.
He had a few good seasons of dominance, and since that time he's been unable to keep himself together, on the mound and at the post game buffet.
Joe Mauer
10 of 10Joe Mauer, has the potential to be an all-time great.
Weak knees? Now that might hold him back. I'm sorry I just don't think catchers can be so fragile. Why is it that some catchers have no problem catching 140 games a year. Mauer couldn't seem to manage 20 games this year before going on the DL for tired legs.
Until he can catch a full season, or at least most of one, its hard to imagine Mauer taking the reigns as a top player in baseball. For now, he's a not too old softy.
