Louis HamweyJun 22, 2011

Andres Villa-Boas was officially announced as the new Chelsea manager Wednesday morning according to the team's official website. The Portuguese coach signed a three-year contract and has already arrived at the Bridge to begin his duties.

After a few days of speculation, the club made it official, saying: "He was the outstanding candidate for the job and one of the most talented young managers in football today."

Villa-Boas is actually making a return to the club after four years of absence. He served under Jose Mourihno as his trusted opposition scout. While abroad, he enjoyed success with the Portuguese club Academica. He helped improve the struggling club and earn them an 11th place finish in the table in his first season as well as a league cup semifinal.

His success their got him attention from Portuguese giants FC Porto. Despite his inexperience, Villa-Boas was appointed by Porto in June 2010 and returned the club to the domestic and international glory they had seen under Mourhino.

In his first season, the 33-year-old won the League, the Domestic Cup and the UEFA Europa Cup. He also set unprecedented numbers for most points in a 30-game season as well as most matches won across all competitions.

In an interview with ChelseaTV, the new manager made his intentions and ideology clear:

"

I expect us to create a group dynamic...this is the most important thing. It's not about my arrival. It's about the continuous success of this club. And again let's reflect on the past six years and what we have achieved and what we can achieve in the next six years. So there's no doubt the challenge is for me to keep winning and I have been an individual that has that hunger for success and I want to give it a go.

"

He is expected to be introduced publicly in a press conference within the next few days.
