WWE: Superstars Using Internet to Further Feuds Adds More to WWE Experience

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 20, 2011

I have to say right off the bat that I am not on twitter and could usually care less about the ramblings of the celebrities on the micro blogging site, but when it comes to the WWE superstars, I find it entertaining.

Lately it seems that a new trend has emerged where wrestlers are using twitter to carry on their feuds. The Rock and John Cena have been trading jabs on twitter for months with Rocky constantly bashing Cena's cookie cutter image while Cena keeps mentioning Rock's absence from WWE live events and TV tapings.

The use of twitter for these two is smart because their feuds started before WrestleMania this year, and it is supposed to go through to the event next year.

Twitter seems to be keeping the fued fresh.

Another feud between a hall of famer and a current star gaining attention is CM Punk and Steve Austin. The straight edge warrior and the beer drinking redneck are polar opposites, which is why the feud is working so well.

Punk is pushing his straight edge agenda while Austin is always chugging down beers two at a time. Had these two been around at the same time I am sure they could have drawn big money as both men are exceptional both in the ring and on the mic.

Punk and Austin even traded a few words last night after Capitol Punishment went off the air, but fans were really hoping for last Monday to set things off. Austin was hosting Raw, and despite coming face to face on the three hour special, the two only briefly exchanged words.

William Regal got into the mix last night by saying the two should just fight. Austin found humor in this and asked Regal if he wanted to see Punk embarrassed on a national stage.

Another guy using the Internet to his advantage is Zach Ryder. The long island native has gained considerable popularity among both industry insiders and fans with his unique brand of humor and honesty in his you-tube videos.

Chants of "We want Ryder" have broken out at both TV tapings and last night's PPV Capitol Punishment. Ryder has been grateful for the strong feedback by responding to fans through twitter.

While Ryder has yet to see a real push come from this new found popularity, it is said to only be a matter of time. WWE officials have taken notice of Ryder's dedication to getting himself over, but until I see Ryder on TV winning matches I will assume WWE will still miss the boat on him.

There are of course many other wrestler's using the Internet, but the results are not as entertaining as they are disturbing. Many former wrestlers have taken to you-tube in recent months to express frustration with some of their former colleagues.

Sean Morley, better known as Val Venis, notably bashed Matt Hardy in a video only to say he was trying to start a work between the two. Hardy insisted Venis was simply out of his mind, but this pails in comparison to what we have seen from Warrior and Hogan lately.

The former Mr. Hellwig has continually bashed Hogan for weeks on everything from his drug use to his open relationship to his wife to being the cause for Savage and Elizabeth getting a divorce.

Basically Warrior is trying to paint Hogan as the worst person ever, and while some of the things said might be true, the fact that Warrior is adding things that are almost guaranteed to be fiction makes his whole argument lose it's credibility.

Warrior has become a bitter shell of his former self in recent years. A man who claims to be done with the wrestling business and never wants to have anything to do with it ever again sure seems to have a problem keeping his name off the headlines of the wrestling dirt-sheets.

Whether its a work or a real beef, the Internet has provided wrestling fans with a full experience that in my opinion is unlike any other sport or form of entertainment out there today.

So check out Twitter and you-tube for your favorite superstars to see what else you can enjoy about the world of wrestling...sorry, I mean Sports Entertainment.

On a side-note: I almost had an aneurysm writing the words "Sports Entertainment," ooh, there it is again.
