WWE Capitol Punishment Preview: Predictions You Can Take to the Bank
The event is set ladies and gentlemen. There are only a few days left to wait for Capitol Punishment.
It will also be Fathers' Day in case you forgot—I believe this would make a great gift so hop to it!
Here is the run down for this Sunday's card:
WWE championship match: John Cena (c) vs. R-Truth
World Heavyweight championship match: Randy Orton (c) vs. Christian
Intercontinental championship match: Wade Barrett (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson
United States championship match: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
The Miz vs. Alex Riley
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio
Alberto Del Rio vs.The Big Show
The card looks good on paper, minus the fact there is no Divas match announced. I bet we will get a surprise addition during the broadcast itself.
One major downer about these WWE pay-per-views is the fact they wait until the last week or so to book practically the entire card. That is so bad for business. It's no wonder why the buyrates reach all-time lows like they do.
After carefully reading people's opinions and writing pieces on the latest happenings, I may have altered my initial predictions on this whole card. The fact there is the Money In The Bank show next month also plays an important factor.
Let's get to it shall we?
Here are the winners of every match this weekend.
Kofi Kingston Retains the U.S. Championship
1 of 9
This match will open the show.
I like Dolph Ziggler, Kofi? Not so much. There is nothing else I can say about him besides mid-card for life.
They have great history between each other. The battles they had over the Intercontinental championship were the highlights of SmackDown but it had been overdone after a while.
I believe this may be Dolph's first attempt at a "face" turn. This past Monday we saw Ziggler cut off Vickie Guerrero in order for him to be in this match.
She might just screw her "client" the title as payback.
It is important to note, Dolph Ziggler seems to have Kofi's number PLUS, after hearing him speak on commentary, I feel this guy could very well be in for a nice little push soon.
John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler? Alex Riley vs. Dolph Ziggler? Sounds nice, no?
Kofi has other great opponents he could battle for this belt, which he hasn't held for very long. One that comes to mind is Jack Swagger. The All-American American should have a crack at this title soon.
Winner: Kofi Kingston (by pinfall)
The Pattern Ends Here! Alberto Del Rio Defeats Big Show
2 of 9
For too long have we seen great, promising "heels" like CM Punk and Wade Barrett take a direct plunge into darkness right out of a feud with the giant.
Enough is enough! I don't care how big he is, I would find 1,000 ways to beat him so imagine what a man like "ADR" could do.
Curiously, WWE officials always make Show come out on top yet this guy is nowhere to be seen in the main-event picture. Not only that, the superstars who take him to the limit are ridiculed and crushed despite the fact they are the up and coming villains we need to spice things up.
Very, very sad!
Now it changes.
Del Rio will rip off the arm of that monster and move on to the next big challenge: facing the WWE Champion himself, John SuperCena sometime this summer.
I want Del Rio to win. His young career needs the exploit and Show's doesn't.
The mexican aristocrat's destiny has already been derailed several times this year. Edge's untimely retirement made sure of that. It is time to get it back on track.
Winner: Alberto Del Rio (by submission)
Ezekiel Jackson Wins the Intercontinental Championship
3 of 9
Wade Barrett left The Corre? Bad mistake on his part. Now no one will save you this time chap!
I never felt he should have held that belt in the first place.
The match will be quick—10 minutes tops with Jackson gaining the victory and the title.
From there, we can go to a much better route where eventually Cody Rhodes takes the championship like I wanted from the beginning.
There should be more non-white champions anyway. It is long overdue for this massive superstar to touch some gold.
Winner and new Intercontinental Champion: Ezekiel Jackson (by pinfall)
CM Punk Moves on to Face the WWE Champion
4 of 9
In light of the constant rumors about CM Punk leaving WWE this summer, the least they could do is to have him score a great victory over the master of the 6-1-9.
Last Monday on RAW, Punk defeated WWE Champion John Cena in a non-title match which usually means he deserves a match for the ultimate prize. My guess is, this will happen in July at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view.
When we take a look back, Punk and Mysterio had quite a nasty feud over on SmackDown last year which resulted not only in the Straightedge Superstar's defeat but also in his head shaved bald!
This time around, the outcome should be different. There is Mason Ryan near by. Perhaps he can get a high-profile feud with the "Little Chihuahua" while CM Punk gets his championship match.
I, for one, would very much enjoy a real Cena-Punk program. A lot of promos, build-up and an amazing match where Punk takes Cena to his limits.
The deciding factor on who's going to claim the belt depends on whether Punk decides to re-sign.
Winner: CM Punk (by pinfall)
The Surprise Match of the Night?
5 of 9
We don't have a Divas match scheduled on the show yet. As much as I would love to see them, I really don't want WWE to rush something that could be good.
Is Beth Phoenix going to get her chance to become one of the two last Divas able to be known as "Women AND Divas Champion?" Besides Gail Kim, no one else can have that honor now and certainly either of those beauties deserves it.
Both "The Glamazon" and Kelly Kelly scored a pin on the champion Brie Bella. Which one should get the title shot?
For the sake of the Divas division, I would hope they decide on Beth Phoenix. She could carry the ladies all the way to WrestleMania where somehow Kelly could win. Time would need to pass until Kharma is ready to return.
Awesome Kong or not, the WWE needs to keep this division alive and strong. Lots of women watch their programs and you have extremely talented athletes just waiting to have a real moment in time.
The Divas are truly living up to their moniker: smart, sexy and powerful. I love them and I want them on the show, damn it!
Winner and new Divas Champion: Beth Phoenix or Kelly Kelly
R-Truth Takes Cena to the Limit
6 of 9
This championship match WILL NOT close the show.
Simple reason: We will not witness the crowning of a new WWE Champion.
Now, I have come to enjoy R-Truth's character BUT I fully expect John Morrison to interfere in this match awarding Superman the victory.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind at all if Truth did win the belt because it could lead to some very interesting scenarios.
First, John Morrison could battle a WWE champion once more. Also, we could very well have a triple threat match next month between all three parties and better yet, a fatal four-way with CM Punk in there.
The best part is, none of them could end up being champion at the end of the night. Remember, the MITB winner could cause a TOTALLY COSMIC upset and steal the title.
I don't know if my heart could take all that.
Back to THIS MATCH. R-Truth has become a great "heel" on Monday nights. He is in phenomenal shape despite his young 39 years of age. Why couldn't he be champion?
One thing I know for sure in my gut is, Truth will really take it to Cena. He will hurt him and hurt him bad. I hope it leaves "The Champ" vulnerable even after their match. That could be used to explain, via storyline, the legitimate injuries he is living with right now.
Be that as it may, the WWE has been very high on John Cena for years and the very thought of the title switching yet again after such a short time leaves me to believe he is to retain and pull the Superman act one more time.
Winner and still WWE Champion: John Cena (by pinfall)
The Miz Gets Some Revenge
7 of 9
There are no secrets here.
This is the match I am waiting for. The Miz is one of my top guys and Alex Riley is a future Superstar in WWE.
After the months of ridicule and abuse he has taken at the hands of his former employer and mentor, Alex Riley has been on a rocket ride to the very stars.
For weeks now he has physically pummeled The Miz and embarrassed him on television. Just this past Monday on RAW we watched as Riley and Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper scored an upset pinfall on the former WWE champion and literally discarded him from the ring shortly after.
The Miz now must capitalize on all this powerful energy we call rage and unleash the full power of his "awesome" being.
I want a few more matches between them and a hopefully superb and meaningful feud but, this Sunday, Miz evens the score.
I've said it before—don't expect nice things to happen here. Payback is a bitch and if Alex Riley is to become a great star, he has to learn to take a few licks.
The Miz is quite in a honorable position now as well. He is basically asked to help put someone over. If they make him lose this one, he will gain twice as much respect and admiration because he will have returned the favor as he received once before.
It's a win-win situation and it is going to be a match high up on the card, between the world championship matches. It certainly deserves that honor. This feud has been one of the most interesting things to happen on RAW in oh-so-long!
Winner: The Miz (by pinfall)
The Viper Gets Devenomized
8 of 9
Randy Orton has a legitimate concussion.
Learn from history please and allow him some time to recover in order to prevent him from suffering the same fate as the "Rated-R Superstar" Edge.
Christian is now a "heel" and those people take advantage of a situation to ensure they come out the winner. Anyway, that's how I would do it.
There was no doubt in my mind Captain Charisma was to regain the belt. I just didn't know when. I guess this is as good a place as any.
We could truly see what kind of reign he could have should Orton take a breather. There are some nice characters there just waiting for an opportunity.
Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson and Wade Barrett are some serious potential rivals for Christian. If Sheamus is not "out" from that punt kick then he logically could be the "face" to take on the captain.
A good guy in chase mode seemed to always work.
By having a title change here you allow "The Viper" to recover and come back with vengeance on his mind and maybe, just maybe, eventually have a returning Chris Jericho to feud with his former tag champion partner.
Could Edge be involved here? We haven't seen him in WWE lately. A surprise appearance would make everyone happy.
No matter how you spin this one, I see only one outcome.
Winner and new World Heavyweight Champion: Christian
We Interrupt This Broadcast Due to the Following Presidential Announcement
9 of 9All in all, this card really looks good on paper. Will it deliver? That has yet to be seen but should all my predictions come true then I'd say we are in for quite a great night.
Wait a second! Of course they will come to pass as I wrote. Any genius could see that's where it is going.
In all seriousness, this Sunday's event will set the stage for what is to come this summer. The Superstars and Divas will work tirelessly to deliver unto us an incredible show.
Will the President watch the show from the White House?
Have a great show everyone and please let me know YOUR predictions down in the comments box.
