Los Angeles Clippers Set to Open Season

Scott FenderOct 26, 2008

Clipper Season is almost here! I know everyone is excited and what better way to start the season than against the big brother Lakers. The Lakers are like the cool older brother who everyone knows and either loves or hates. The Clippers are the nice younger brother who does his own thing and no one really believes they are related.

What better way to open the season? I can think of nothing better than showing the Lakers that the little brother is growing up. No longer subject to noogies and beatings, the Clippers are maturing. They are still not sure who they are and have a year or two until they become the confident kid with the swagger of confident young men.

The Clippers have Baron Davis who will likely take shots he should not and ignore plays and do his own thing. This season does not depend on him. This season and game depend on Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby. The inside men need to get the job done and stay healthy.

With both of these rebounding machines in the game expect teams to alter the game plans. Camby is a former defensive player of the year and can only help Kaman mature into a star.

Also, the young man Eric Gordon will be important not only this year but for the future. He needs to develop behind Cuttino Mobley and Baron Davis and round out his already impressive game. If he plays well enough he will give Cuttino well needed rest in important games and start to earn the starting role.

Eric has plenty to love and showed flashes of maturity and stardom in the preseason. He just needs to translate into the regular season and stay positive. Gordon could form a great tandem in the back court with Davis.

The Clippers could make a splash this year, but they have the makings of a solid team in a year or two. Look for growing pains this year but on opening night, I think the Clippers make a statement against the Lakers.

The Clippers have hit puberty and are maturing. Lakers and the NBA, you are on notice.
