San Francisco Giants Fend off D-Backs in 'Torture, Part 2'

When the Giants lead a game, 5-0, you can never expect it to be over. The Giants' motto is "torture," and if it worked last year, it is here to stay.

Before finishing off the game, the bearded closer allowed two baserunners until he got Stephen Drew looking to end the game. Pablo Sandoval singled in a run in his first at-bat back.

The Giants dominated early, as Sandoval's single on an inside fastball and Matt Cain's safety squeeze knocked in the first two runs. Andres Torres and Cody Ross, who doubled on a slider, scored the first two runs.

If you though Ross stepped up in the fourth, he really made an impact in the fifth, as his two-run double on Josh Collmenter's fastball gave the Giants a 4-0 lead. Ross scored when Brandon Crawford got into a pickle in between first and second and Ross sprinted home from third.

In the fifth and sixth, Cain, who had pitched amazingly well, struggled, as he gave up a sacrifice fly and a three-run homer. However, the Giants still had the lead, and Nate Scheirholtz would add to it.

Schierholtz, who dominated the Reds on Friday and Sunday, hit a double on an outside fastball to knock in Aubrey Huff. The Giants weren't looking at complete torture anymore until Justin Upton doubled in a run.

In the eighth, the Giants got into trouble when Sergio Romo walked a batter, but Javier Lopez got out of the jam. In the ninth, the Giants got into another jam until the quirky closer got out of trouble.

Against Upton, Wilson got ahead 0-2, before walking Upton on eight pitches. However, Wilson got back on the 0-2 action, as he got two strikes on Drew. In typical Wilson fashion, he threw a ball before the final pitch of the game.

The final pitch was a slider on the outside corner, kind of like a repeat of last year's NLCS. Again, the pitch was called a strike and the Giants had won. The Giants improved to 38-29 while the D-Backs dropped to 37-31, 1.5 games behind the Giants.
