UFC 131 Results: 3 Fights Donald Cerrone Could Take Next

Jeffrey McKinneyJun 12, 2011

With his win over Vagnar Rocha at UFC 131, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is one step closer to getting in the mix at the 155 lbs. division.

Cerrone is now 2-0 in the UFC,15-3-1 overall and looking to continue his push toward a lightweight championship.

If Cerrone wants to continue this push, here are three fights he should consider taking.

Sam Stout

Cerrone and Stout were originally supposed to meet at UFC 126, but Stout was forced to pull out thanks to injury.

Both competed at UFC 131; Stout got one of 2011's top KO's, and Cerrone got a decision win.

Both Stout and Cerrone are known for putting on exciting fights, and both want to move up the lightweight division.

An exciting fight with one another could do just that.

Ben Henderson

Two of Cerrone’s three losses have come to Ben Henderson.

Cerrone may have to fight Henderson again somewhere down the line if he hopes to get into the mix at 155. Henderson looked good in his UFC debut and hopes to get back on top of the lightweight division.

Cerrone has been on a tear since his last fight with Henderson. If Henderson loses to Jim Miller, I would like to see a third bout between the two and see if Cerrone can finally defeat Henderson.

Anthony Pettis

3 of 3

Pettis was supposed to be next in line for the UFC lightweight title.

Thanks to Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard’s fight ending in a draw—and both men getting injured while training for a third bout with each other—Pettis decided to take a dangerous fight against Clay Guida.

Despite some seeing the fight going Pettis' way, he lost by decision to Guida.

A fight between the two former WEC stars would be a way to determine their ranking in the division.
