UFC 131 Results: Yves Edwards vs. Sam Stout Quick Results & Aftermath
Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout proved his nickname once again with a stunning left counter, flooring Yves Edwards violently at 3:52 of the first round.
Edwards caught Stout with a solid right hand to the temple, but he was not phased, and he countered a split second after and landed a hit flush on the chin of Edwards. Edwards went back and hit his head hard on the canvas. He stayed there for quite a while, but eventually he seemed to be okay as he left the octagon.
Stout, the London Ontario native was looking for a convincing win and finish, and he delivered that in spades in this one.
“You know it takes a bit more than that to take me out Joe,” Stout told Joe Rogan in the ring after. “Yves Edwards is a precision striker and I knew I was going to have to rely on my chin a little bit.”
Stout should now be able to not only look for a big name fight, but he should be able to get it sooner rather than later as he came out of this bout quickly and unscathed.
The Canadian crowd on hand were behind Stout all the way as they yelled loudly from the time he came to the ring to the deafening roar when Edwards hit the canvass. Edwards had Stout down at one point early and the crowd urged him to his feet with a chant of “Go Sam Go.”
Stout was revved up in the ring after. “ I thought it would take me longer to connect against a fighter of Yves caliber. I was putting my combinations together and trying to slow him down. We’ve been working for several months on landing a left hook against a left handed fighter. Tonight, it landed and worked.”
He is surely up for consideration for another bonus, which would give him the most of anyone in the UFC all time.
I would like to see Stout take a nice step up in competition, say against a top 15 fighter in the division such as Melvin Guillard or possibly Donald "The Cowboy" Cerrone if he is successful in his bout.
