The Positive Side Of The Having So Many Sundin Articles

Sean PaddisonOct 24, 2008

There is a very positive bi-product of having so many articles out there talking about how Sundin is thinking. That positive side is that there are less media articles over-analyzing the new Leafs and their play thus far this year. This affords the young Leafs some rare breathing room in the usually high pressure cooker world that is Leafs land.

My personal position on Mats is that he's a great guy and a good hockey player, but perhaps it's best if he let the Leafs start a new chapter without him. The last season I'm sure left a bad taste not only in his mouth, but many Leafs fan too. Had he saw reason and allowed a trade, the Leafs might have that one or two sharp shooters they sorely need right now. To be fair to Mats though the same could be said for Brian Mc-Duh.... oops I mean...McCabe, Kaberle, Kubina and Tucker who all balked on trades that could have helped the Leafs future.

As far as a Mats comeback, to reintroduce old negative energy might not be the wisest thing for this team.

However the longer Mats takes to make up his mind the better because then the longer much of the media will be covering that instead of ripping apart this young Leaf team.

If Mats does decide to join the Leafs I will be holding my breath and praying that he won't spread LEAF-ITIS to the rest of the new Leafs.

More good news is Ron Wilson MAY have found the cure for "Leaf-itis", which we can call "off-the-ice-itis".

However, if you remember when Paul Maurice first started coaching the Leafs in his first year with them he also benched and scratched players to encourage them, but over time I guess he lost his mojo to stand up to the prima-donnas in the dressing room.

I have a feeling Ron Wilson has a bit more spine than Paul Maurice, just look at San Jose's record while he coached, that should be enough proof.

I also still think that Michael Peca would have made a nice addition to Wilson's team play model. Too bad they let him go, he certainly would have been better than Holweg.
