UFC News: Dana White talks Penn, Fitch, Shields Future Bouts
BJ Penn, Jon Fitch and Jake Shields all could be meeting each in the Octagon sometime soon.
Former UFC lightweight and welterweight champ Penn recently called out Shields on twitter. Penn, who’s been nursing an injury, is ready to get back into the cage.
While Penn has called out Shields, Fitch has made it clear he only wants to fight Penn or current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Like Penn, Fitch is currently out due to injury.
According to UFC President Dana White, the potential bouts between the three stars depend on injuries.
“No, we don’t have anything yet. B.J.’s been calling (Shields) out, B.J.’s chomping at the bit to fight right now, he wants to fight,” White told MMAWeekly.com on Thursday.
“Right now that’s what we’re waiting on. As far as a lot of these fights go, guys that are injured, guys that are not, guys that are coming back, once all these guys heal up we’re going to have a crazy roster.”
Fitch has the longest wait of any of the fighters, as he is expected to be out until early fall.
Shields, who is coming off of a loss to St-Pierre, is the only one out of the three who is not sidelined with injuries.
It will be interesting to see what route White and the UFC chooses to go with when these fighters return.
