Week 8 Key NFL Trends From NFLOne.com: Our Blog/Forum Is Live!

The DirectorOct 24, 2008

AT FIRST GLANCE…there are games that always look ‘Tasty’ ATS in many publications as a ‘Bullet’ trend only to ‘trap’ upon further review. In 2006, The Director looked for the first time to clear the way for you to understand which team has the real ‘ADVANTAGE’ against the ‘Trend’.

Few and far between are the words of the week. You could look to Baltimore where the experts are projecting a victory by a strong rushing attack, but is one lopsided victory ATS by the RAVENS by an 18 point margin a trend? Is this Groundhog Day? Will Bill Murray pop up in Detroit again where the LIONS lost by 31 points last year versus the Redskins?  Can you count a 28 point victory for a 1-0 record ATS under the Cowboys’ Parcells versus the Buccaneers ground to stand on?  Can Herm Edwards, who is 0-1 SU do what the Raiders did, and keep their 1-0 record ATS versus the NY Jets alive; the 14.5 point line does exceed the projected 12 point margin experts are predicting?

Trying to avoid this week’s episode of SOAP, and find one better, the Nolanless 49ERS, who are losing by an average of 13 points per game, head Home after suffering at the hands of the Giants to face the Seattle Seahawks, who in their own dismal dismay had been 2-0 ATS until the Week 2 loss SU and ATS versus the Niners in 2007. Considering that the Niners had taken two ATS in 2006, look for Singletary to look to keep the pendulum 2008 swung in San Francisco’s direction with a sweep.

DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE

Although the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES remain one of the strongest teams ATS off the bye, and are powering a +5 turnover ratio on the Road, it is the Atlanta Falcons, who are not only shaking things up in 2008, but on the back of evil Michael Vick’s success are actually 2-0 ATS versus the Eagles.  Is it a clean slate, or will the Falcons stay close, and even surprise Reid with an upset as they did in 2005.

FIRST LOOK

One should really look for southern hospitality this weekend with a visit Carolina where the PANTHERS, strong before the bye weekend, and 3-0 ATS as Home in 2008, have not lost to the Arizona Cardinals since 2003.  Having recaptured its winnings ways against the Saints, John Fox will look to keep its 3-0 record ATS over the last four years in the series alive.  While the 15 point victory was impressive a year ago, it needs to be tempered by the fact that Rattay was at the helm of the Cardinals.

KING TRENDS

Having played its season by the numbers, the few could also go to the sunny beaches of Miami where the Buffalo Bills arrive 7-0-1 ATS over the last four years with the Dolphins.  Not since Gregg Williams have the Bills lost ATS to the Dolphins. It must be noted that while the Bills have won by an average margin of 20 points per game here, the only 3 point tie took place here in 2007.  The good news for the Bills is that the Fish have struggled with turnovers at Home this season.
ADVANTAGE BILLS

If the stars ever collided, it is in Tennessee, where the TITANS face the Colts, who in losing by one of their most collasal margins in recent years now face off with the Titans, who not only 4-0 ATS in their last four matchups with the Colts, but perfect ATS in 2008.  Although the Titans have been Underdogs in 3 of the last four matchups, and gone 0-2 SU here in Tennessee over the last two years, the did cover as 4 Favorites in Indianapolis to close out 2007.
