Terrelle Pryor: Will the Kansas City Chiefs Take a Chance on the Fading Star?

Bill RobbinsJun 9, 2011

You might have already heard that QB Terrelle Pryor is out at Ohio State.

The former five-star recruit decided to withdraw from the University earlier this week, after head coach Jim Tressel resigned amid numerous potential NCAA violations for improper benefits to players.

Pryor has decided that he will not play college football next season, and that he will give the NFL a shot, which will have to come through the league's Supplemental Draft that will take place next month.

There is a chance that many teams will be interested in putting in a bid for Pryor, considering how well he played in his junior season at Ohio State.

The Kansas City Chiefs could be one of those teams that might have some interesting in the controversial quarterback.

KC lacked playmakers on offense last season, as they relied on on Pro Bowl RB Jamaal Charles and Pro Bowl WR Dwayne Bowe to carry load for much of the year.

Kansas City drafted former Pitt wideout Jonathan Baldwin in April's NFL Draft to help shore up the receiving corps, but they could still use another good receiver as well.

This is where Pryor could help them.

Since he struggled with accuracy issues a lot at OSU, he will likely not be a QB in the NFL.  However, he has a good chance at being tried out as a receiver, due to his 6'6", 233 lb frame and the speed he possesses.

If anything, I could see Chiefs GM Scott Pioli taking a flier on him just to see if he could develop him into a QB, and if not, plug him in as a receiver from time to time.

Right now, Pryor projects as a Brad-Smith type of player in the NFL: a dual-threat college QB who has transformed into a decent NFL wide receiver.

The question for the Chiefs becomes quite obvious.

Do the Chiefs want a Brad Smith of their own?

I would think not, but Scott Pioli has surprised us all before, and he could certainly do it again with Pryor.
