Terrelle Pryor: The 10 Worst NFL Fits for Pryor
The Terrell Pryor sweepstakes has officially opened. Pryor decided to “forgo” his senior season to enter the NFL draft due to the ongoing scandal at The Ohio State University.
Pryor’s skill set now shifts from being a college quarterback who could make plays with his legs to a guy who can play multiple positions in the National Football League, expect maybe quarterback.
There are more than a few teams in the league who would be well served to have Pryor on their roster, as he’s big enough to play tight end and fast enough to play receiver.
His skill set can be put to use by any NFL team, and I mean any of them. Every team can use help on special teams, and if he’s converted to wide receiver then I believe most could use the assistance.
But while his primary position in college was that of quarterback, why are so many pundits attempting to push Pryor from behind center?
Maybe it's because of his inaccuracy or his inability to properly read defenses, but before the baby is thrown out with the bath water, maybe Pryor should be given a chance like my man Tim Tebow.
Before we walk down that trail of how teams will use the former Buckeye quarterback, let's first rule out the squads who can’t use Pryor’s services.
New England Patriots
1 of 10
I think its safe to say that the Pats are pretty set at quarterback, so no need for tantalizing Tom to worry about his job.
But while I believe that Belichick could figure out a few ways to use Pryor I don’t think he’ll don a Patriots jersey anytime soon.
New England made it along just fine without Randy Moss, and Wes Welker made it back OK from his knee injury.
Pryor’s first season will be probably be spent trying to learn a new position, but it won’t be in a Patriots uniform.
Philadelphia Eagles
2 of 10
I believe Pryor’s personality would fit well in Philly's locker room, but he would probably get lost on the depth chart.
The Iggles have more weapons than Kim Jong-il and they are pretty set at the receiver position. If Vick tanks in his third season in illadelphia then there is always Kevin Kolb, so there is no room for Pryor behind center.
Andy Reid would love a player like Pryor because it would give him more reasons to pass the ball, but for the time being Terrelle’s stay in the state of Pennsylvania is only by imagination.
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 10
I honestly believe that if you place Pryor on any NFL roster, he’ll find his way and the coach would find ways to properly utilize him. But with a team like Baltimore who has a solid situation at quarterback, tight end and wide receiver, there is really no need for Pryor to just sit on the bench.
The Ravens have defensive concerns, and adding Pryor would probably just add a distraction for quarterback Joe Flacco if he has a bad stretch during the season.
While having Reverend Ray Lewis as a mentor may be tempting to the young fellow, I believe his talents would be best served elsewhere.
Green Bay Packers
4 of 10
Who doesn’t want to play for a Super Bowl champion, eh? Aaron Rodgers is like a god in Green Bay right now and the receiving core is solid as a rock.
The tight end position is set and Pryor would really just labor in preseason games and clean up duty.
Playing for a successful franchise would be great, but being a cheese head probably isn’t in Terrelle’s future.
Pittsburgh Steelers
5 of 10
The train in steel town moves along no matter the situation, and if Pittsburgh fails to snag Pryor I think they’ll be ok.
Big Ben will be the man calling plays in the offensive huddle for the next decade and Hines Ward and Mike Wallace will be catching balls from him for the next few years.
The Steelers having bigger concerns than adding a slash type of player like Pryor, and unless Pryor can play on the offensive line I believe Pittsburgh will pass.
Carolina Panthers
6 of 10
The Panthers have a brand spanking new quarterback in Cam Newton and adding two players with the same skill set for maybe the same position is Matt Millen like.
Steve Smith may play for another team next season and their receiving corps will become lighter if they decide to trade him away. But even if they do, I’m not sure how the dynamic of Newton and Pryor will work in Carolina.
Indianapolis Colts
7 of 10
This is still Peyton Manning’s team and it will be until he decides to hang ‘em up. The Colts have to have the future in their back of their minds but I’m not sure if adding Pryor to replace Manning is high on their list.
Special teams or receiver would be his likely destination in Indiana, and if that be the case then a talented player would just sit and waste away.
The Colts have weapons but adding Pryor isn’t a necessity
Minnesota Vikings
8 of 10
I know that the Vikings need a quarterback but here’s why I think the purple people eaters would be smart to pass.
Pryor would be a project at quarterback and the Vikings are built to win now, and I mean right now.
The team thought that adding Brett Favre would put them over the edge and it didn’t. It seems as if they are only missing one piece to make it to the Super Bowl.
Selecting Pryor would be a nod to the future and since the Vikings players aren’t getting younger, I believe a team like Minnesota, who have a glaring hole at quarterback, would be best to leave Pryor and his talents alone.
San Francisco 49ers
9 of 10
The Niners have a need at quarterback but not this type of need. Josh McDaniels put his NFL coaching career on the line by drafting Tim Tebow, and while Tebow wasn’t responsible for JMac’s undoing, his career still depended on it.
Jim Harbaugh is the new kid in town and while no one believes that Alex Smith is taking the Niners anywhere, hanging your hopes on a player like Pryor isn’t the smartest idea in the world.
San Fran needs a lot of help but selecting a player like Pryor won’t send them anywhere anytime soon.
Dallas Cowboys
10 of 10
Dallas has a top 10 quarterback in Tony Romo and a few of the league's best up-and-coming receivers in Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.
Pryor would just add instability to a team that looks pretty stable, and that’s rare for the Cowboys. The special teams needs upgrading but Pryor won’t be asked to help tackle players.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would love to add a player like Pryor to the fold, but head coach Jason Garrett has enough power and egos to work with without the distraction of a Terrelle Pryor.
