Liverpool Transfers : Jordan Henderson Deal Done, Who Is Next on the Radar?

Abhijit RajaJun 8, 2011

Liverpool finally made their first official move in the transfer market today with the signing of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland

According to guardian.co.uk, David N'gog is expected to move in the opposite direction to the Stadium of Light as a part of the deal.

The transfer fee for Henderson is estimated to be £20 million, and David N'gog is supposedly valued at £7 million. Hence, the net cash transfer to Sunderland would be £13 million.

With one of the Liverpool targets Phil Jones on the verge of signing for bitter rivals Manchester United, according to independent.co.uk, Liverpool would need to turn to alternate targets in Scott Dann or Mamadou Sakho, according to givemefootball.com

Being a scouser and a childhood Liverpool supporter, Scott Dann would appear to be the ideal fit for Liverpool.

With Birmingham being relegated and Dann being in the last year of his contract, Liverpool should be able to secure the services of this 6'2" defender for about £10 million.

Another option could be the highly rated French international from Paris, Saint Germain, Mamadou Sakho. However, with a number of clubs tracking this youngster coupled with PSG's reluctance to let him go, he won't come cheap and is expected to cost in the range of £20 million.

Though Liverpool have already secured a player in the center of midfield in Jordan Henderson, Kenny Dalglish is still believed to be interested in the signing of the Blackpool captain Charlie Adam, guardian.co.uk reported.

Liverpool had missed out on securing his services in January, but due to Blackpool's relegation and Adam's desire to stay in the Premier League, it is expected that a fee of about £7 million should be enough this time around.

One of the reasons for Liverpool going for another central midfielder could be the fact that Liverpool do not expect Alberto Aquilani to return to Anfield, with a deal with Juventus or AC Milan expected to be completed soon.

One of the most important areas that Liverpool want to strengthen in the transfer window is the wings. With Ashley Young supposedly leaning towards a move to Manchester United, Liverpool might turn its attention towards Young's Villa teammate Stewart Downing, according to telegraph.co.uk

Downing, signed from Middlesbrough in 2009, has been one of the best players for Villa over the past two seasons. There is no doubt that Aston Villa would make all efforts to prevent the departure of two of its most promising players in Young and Downing.

With the expected departure of David N'gog to Sunderland, it is expected that Liverpool would try and sign a young striker, and Connor Wickham is said to be on the top of that wishlist according to independent.co.uk

The 18-year-old from Ipswich is very highly rated by Dalglish and has even earned comparisons with the legendary Alan Shearer in such early stages of his career.

With the rumors of the signing of a left-back on the back-burner now, the door is still open for any of the reported linked players: Jose Enrique, Nacho Monreal, Aly Cissokho and Jeffren Suarez.

Also, Liverpool would be expected to make more than one signing in the winger department with players like Juan Mata, Sylvian Marveaux and Eljero Elia amongst the players to be linked with a move to Anfield.

It has been less than 10 days since the transfer window has opened, and already, a lot of activity is being reported in the transfer window.

One should also consider that it is not until July that the clubs can sign players from outside England.

With almost all clubs looking to strengthen and over two and a half months remaining for the close of the transfer window, expect a lot more activity from all the teams right up until the last moment before the transfer window closes on the 31st of August.
