Carolina Panthers: Should Panthers Sign Another Undrafted Auburn Tigers Player?

Joye PruittJun 5, 2011

It was reported by USA Today that the Carolina Panthers held a secret workout and hired a cop to make sure reporters did not slip pass their boundaries.

It does not surprise me at all that the Panthers do not want cameras flashing every second as they attempt to right all the wrongs mentioned by analysts and fans for the past few seasons. Actually, when you think back to when the Carolina Panthers were successful, it was the end of the 2008 season when they finished with a record of 12-4.

Subsequently, they were slapped in the face at the finish by the Arizona Cardinals with a 33-13 loss due to Jake Delhomme’s five interceptions and a fumble. Luckily, he is not present to screw up another big moment for a recovering franchise. Now, they have Cam Newton to look to for general influence over the pace of the 2011 season.

But even a stud like Newton needs a little help to accomplish the icon status he is looking forward to in his first years as a member of the NFL.

There are a few undrafted players that could help him reach the peak of his potential on both sides of the ball.

It may sound a little biased because Darvin Adams is in fact a former member of Auburn University, much like Newton, but he has already adjusted to the QB’s speed, direction and on-field motions. The smallest things count when the ball is in play.

Knowing your quarterback’s body movements and his instincts in certain game situations allows wide receivers to excel at their craft. No one should count out the fact that Adams just has a knack for finding space to catch the ball. He may have been overshadowed by his quarterback and the defensive marquee of the team, Nick Fairley, but he had his fair share of credit for Auburn’s victories.

I would not compare him to the likes of Julio Jones or AJ Green, both excellent athletes at their position, but he has done enough in the past year as a Tiger to prove that he deserves a chance in the league. What better place to land than with someone you trust in long yard instance?

The biggest argument is that the chemistry is already structured and in place. All that is left is for the two to build upon it.
