Li Na Advances to French Open Semifinals

Lauren LynchJun 1, 2011

No. 6 seed Li Na ousted Victoria Azarenka 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals of the French Open Wednesday.

Li used her quick movement to her advantage. After two match-point opportunities, the No. 1 Chinese player converted the third after one of Azarenka's shots sailed wide.

Azarenka had not dropped a set in Paris until meeting the Australian Open runner-up, who has professed her ironic dislike for clay.

Li was the first Chinese player to reach the French Open quarterfinals earlier in the tournament and with her win over Azarenka, she is now the first to reach the semifinals.

If she wins her semifinal match, she will advance to her second Grand Slam final of the year.

But first, she will have to get past Maria Sharapova, who defeated Andrea Petkovic in two quick sets.

Li remains confident about her game and told the press, "I've tried to keep the same level as Melbourne, or even better."
