Phillies Phever Begins Tonight

David DeVaultOct 22, 2008

Tonight is the night everyone in the baseball world has been waiting for since Mar. 25, 2008 (the start of the season, Boston vs. Oakland in Japan; other teams started on the 30th).

Yes, it's Game One of the 2008 World Series, tonight at Tropicana Field. Everyone in Philadelphia is so excited to see the Phillies even come this close to a World Series Championship, let alone win one.

The reason for all the excitement is that no team has really come this close to winning a championship in Philadelphia (excluding the Eagles in 2004) in a long time. And we all have been heartbroken numerous times by our teams in the past, such as: the 2004 Eagles, 2001 Sixers, 1997 Flyers, and finally the 1993 Phillies.

We're talking about 9,276 days since our 1983 Sixers won the NBA Championship. I think Philly has had enough with all the playing around; it's time to get serious.

I've been a Phillies fan since I was born in 1993; well, let's say the year we lost the championship that belonged to us. And I have never felt complete watching all of this postseason NFL, MLB, and NHL and not seeing my teams near the end, contending for the championships.

This run for the Phillies is all that I talk about—all of the time—because I am so excited. I have played the game of baseball all of my life, and I love it. It's my favorite sport of all time. Football comes second, but I'm not talking about the Eagles at the moment.

I have noticed all these years that Philadelphia fans really do live and die by their teams. And when we parade down Broad Street, you're gonna see a party that you have never seen before. And it may last a couple of days, too.

So, I hope that the Phillies don't choke under all this pressure that's upon them and that they bring this town and surrounding fans and states the championship they deserve.

Thank you for reading.
