Week 8 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

Michael WhooleyOct 20, 2008

With the fantasy football season approaching the half way point  every game means something, therefore it's time to be extra careful when determining which quarterback on your roster has the better matchup. Instead of just taking a guess, check out the Fantasy Football Week 8 Quarterback Rankings and let them help you pick that perfect QB.

--------------------

1. Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) vs. Atlanta

The Eagles are coming off a bye and will be boosted by the return of running back Brian Westbrook. They get to play at home against a quarterback who, despite showing uncanny poise, is still a rookie. The Philadelphia offense has been incredible at times this season and typically head coach Andy Reid has his team playing well coming off a bye, so it should be a big week for McNabb.

2. Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) @ Carolina

Coming off such an emotional win like the Cardinals were last week, perhaps it was a good thing to have a bye and recollect their thoughts. The Panthers looked good last week against the Saint,s but New Orleans wasn’t the same after Reggie Bush left the game. Kurt Warner may turn the ball over a few times in this one and the Panthers may have a stellar pass defense, but you can expect Warner to be firing away, leading to another solid fantasy showing.
Point Projection: 21 points

3. Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Tampa Bay **Check Status**

Romo was originally supposed to be out 3-4 weeks with that pinkie injury. He then received a call from Brett Favre who basically called Romo a sissy if he didn’t try to play through the injury. We’re not sure what compelled Favre to do that, but nonetheless it appears to have worked. Romo ended up practicing last week and after Brad Johnson’s horrific performance last week against St. Louis, we feel there’s no way Romo doesn’t play against the Buccaneers. Should Romo remain on the bench and Johnson the starter, you must downgrade Johnson to about 8 fantasy points.
Point Projection: 20 points

4. Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) @ New Orleans (London)

So technically it’s a road game for the Rivers and the Chargers but both teams are on the road this week and have already landed in London. The Saints are clearly missing something when Bush isn’t in the game and the less time the New Orleans offense is on the field, the more opportunity that gives Rivers to make plays. The defense, without tackles Sedrick Ellis and Bryant Young, has struggled to defend the pass still so barring some terrible English weather it will be a good game for Rivers.

5.  Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) vs. Cincinnati

It appears the Bengals and Lions are having a race for the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft as they are the two remaining winless teams. The Bengals have been close to victory a few times, only to squander any opportunity away in the second half. Meanwhile, Schaub has been on point in the last three games as he has thrown for 953 yards, six touchdowns and just two interceptions while completing 68.1 percent of his passes.
Point Projection: 17 points

--------------------

6. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. San Diego (London)

We’ll get to see just what Brees and the Saints are made of as they go against San Diego without their top running back or receiver. Brees has an odd way of making the other players around him better so it’s very reasonable to expect a solid performance from him this week. Plus without Bush, Brees will be forced to try to win the game with his arm and even though that may not happen, he will still get a good number of points.
Point Projection: 17 points

--------------------

7. Brett Favre (New York Jets) vs. Kansas City

The Jets offense with Favre has been enigmatic so far but this week they’ll have the cure for what ails them in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are completely horrible on defense, just watch them and it appears nobody even wants to make a tackle. Kansas City ranks 27th or lower in every major defensive category except for passing yards, so unless Thomas Jones runs for three touchdowns in this one, Favre will get his points.
Point Projection: 17 points

--------------------

8. Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. New York Giants

Roethlisberger may have flown under the radar a bit this season but the guy has been playing at an incredibly high level all year. He’s got a least one touchdown in five of the six games and the last two weeks he’s thrown for 515 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. With running back Willie Parker still being injured and the team relying on Mewelde Moore, this will be a game that Big Ben has to win with his arm and he’s got the capability.
Point Projection: 16 points

--------------------

9. Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) @ Detroit

Bringing in Rod Marinelli as head coach was supposed to make the Detroit Lions a tougher team, as well as a more defensive one. Thus it is odd, though not surprising that Detroit ranks 30th or worse in every major defensive category. Now they have a new quarterback who is struggling mightily, leaving the defense to see more snaps than before. Campbell and the Redskins have played much better on the road this season than at home, so expect a big one from them in Detroit.
Point Projection: 16 points

--------------------

10. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) @ Tennessee

Manning and the Colts continue to astound and confuse fans and fantasy owners alike. One week after looking like the Colts of old in a blowout win over Baltimore, Indianapolis laid an egg against Green Baby as Manning was just 21-of-42 for 229 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. This week, against an even tougher Tennessee defense, we’ll keep the expectations modest.
