WWE Monday Night Raw (5/23): The Hits, the Misses and the "Who Knows?"

Bridget CampbellMay 24, 2011

This week's episode of Raw served as a show case for fall out of Over the Limit. It was also supposed to spark new feuds for the next pay-per-view and keep us interested in the pre-existing feuds.

Did they do a good job? Well, you will find out in this edition of Hits, Misses and What the Hell.

Hits: Miz and Riley Segment

This needed to happen sooner or later.

Miz kept blaming his losses on Riley and then Miz fired him. After beating down Miz, Riley decided he was ok with that. This gives us a good question mark of will this be a feud or will Riley go to SmackDown begin a storyline without the Miz.

This feud could benefit both wrestlers. Riley can have a full blown face turn with Miz winning the feud, plugging Riley into high profile matches and sparking a winning streak for Miz.

Cena and Mysterio Vs R-Truth and CM Punk

This was a very good tag team match.

Did we know what was going to happen? Probably. Do we know if Truth did enough to get a title shot? No.

Bret Hart was the special guest referee. Although his counts were slow for both teams, I thought he did a fine job. It was good to see Punk back in the main event, even if he was on the losing end. I also like Punk's ring gear tribute to the late "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

Last but not least, if the faces had to win I'm glad Mysterio got the pin instead of Cena.

Misses: Big Show Injury?

I don't recall ever getting an update by the announcers saying the extent of the injury. I am wondering if this is because he needed time off or part of the storyline.

I don't know what this leads to when it comes for Kane and Show getting the tag titles back. Is this a start to a Big Show/Alberto Del Rio feud?

This one just leaves me flabbergasted.

Kharma

What was up with this segment? Kharma's tears were weird, but that's not the only thing wrong with this segment.

She had the opportunity to attack this past week on SmackDown and at Over the Limit, and yet we get nothing. She decides to come out when there are eight Divas in the ring instead of two or three and has a complete breakdown.

Wherever they are going with this, they need to get there fast.

What the Hell?

What the Hell was WWE thinking in making Cole do a 180?

I get that he was embarrassed and wants to put everything behind him. However, do they think that the WWE fans are just going to be like, "Ok, whatever you say."

Is WWE trying to create another angle with this? Although Cole might become less annoying—which I know we all pray for—I feel it was a completely dumb idea for them to write the end of the feud this way.

What the Hell is WWE doing with the tag titles?

The story goes like this: Nexus members CM Punk and Mason Ryan had a tag title match at Over the Limit against the champions Big Show and Kane. They lost the match cleanly.

The next night Nexus members David Otunga and Michael McGillicuty defeat Big Show and Kane to become tag team champions. What the hell was the point of the loss at the pay-per-view if they were going to win the next night.

To top it off, the match was pretty much the same as last week with a slight variation to the finish.

Spot of the Night

Gutwrench powerbomb by Jack Swagger to Evan Bourne. This particular move was the most powerful of the night.

Throw in the weird contortion of Bourne when he landed, his body kind of folded up, and Swagger has the Spot of the Night two weeks running.

Quote of the Night

"Where'd you learn how to count? Huh? Canada?" - CM Punk.

During the main event Punk got a little mad at Bret Hart for counting slow. This is what he told Hart. Now I don't know if everyone heard it, but when I did I couldn't stop laughing. Punk has this way of making the most normal things sound funny and because of that he has his first quote of the night.

This weeks Raw was so-so for me. We found out the next WWE Title match will not be between Mix and Cena, thank God. R-Truth is trying to get a title match.

Meanwhile, we have the possible start up of a feud between Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger and also a feud between Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre.

Next week's Raw should give us some answers. Although I am glad there are four weeks before the next PPV, I would like to have an idea of where they are going for this PPV and for the entire summer.

Hopefully we will get some answers.
