Belts Are Good: Can Brandon Belt's Arrival Help the San Francisco Giants Win?

Listen, belts, belt loops and Brandon Belt are good…we can agree on this right?  I’m not sure if we’re talking heroes here, but we are definitely talking solutions to potentially tricky situations.  If your britches are perennially ridin’ low, belts and loops got your back.  If your bats have gone cold, Brandon Belt could just be the answer to your offensive queries.  Henry Schulman wrote some quick notes yesterday about Aubrey Huff’s willingness to play the hot corner. 

If Huff is willing to step in and lock down the three bag until Sandoval returns, I see no reason for delay.  Huff has played 360 career games at third base, starting 344.  Can he be much worse than DeRosa and his balsa wood wrists, or the fear striking Tejada / Fontenot left side of the infield?  Belt is tearing up the PCL, posting .380 AVG / .519 OBP / .620 SLG numbers.  He brings a patient professional approach to the plate that Giants have at times been lacking.  In AAA, he has worked out 26 walks through 25 games. 

In his few weeks at the big league level, Belt walked eight times (Rowand and Tejada have six a piece this season. Burrell and Posey lead the GMEN with 16 BB for comparisons sake).  The kid knows how to take a pitch and work a count.  Most experts believe that Belt is the Giant’s top prospect and a future star.  Betting on the future is fine, I get it, but at some point the future must become the present.  I believe Belt is one of the top eight hitters in the Giants organization and can help them win right now.  It’s time to get him in the lineup.
