Top 10 Submission Victories In UFC History
Ok so about a month ago I made a top 10 list of the best KO/TKO in UFChistory, according to me of course. Now, I decided to make the same thing but this time with the best submissions in UFChistory. Now I know, many people won't agree with my top 10 list, but it's ok, hope I can remind you of previous UFC fights.
10. February 5th, 2005, UFC 51, Pete Sell vs Phil Baroni
The fact that Phil Baroni was actually winning the fight, having won rounds 1 and 2 he came in the third took Sell down and was chocked out. Phil Baroni's face was blue while he was locked in the guillotine choke, 1 point for Matt Serra, 0 points for Mark Laimon.
9. February 3rd, 2007, UFC 67, Travis Lutter vs Anderson Silva
The reason this submission made it in, is because Anderson Silva is my favorite fighter and the viciousness of his elbows on top of Lutter's head during the triangle choke was amazing.
8. July 19th, 2008, UFC Fight Night Silva vs Irvin, CB Dollaway vs Jesse Taylor
What made this submission special, is the fact that it was the first time (that I know of) that the peruvian neck tie was ever applied. It's a move CB Dollaway perfected on season 7 of TUF and he was able to lock it in that night.
7. November 17th, 2007, UFC 78, Jason Reinhart vs Joe Lauzon
Joe Lauzon came out like dynamite took Reinhart to the ground took his back and locked in one of the deepest rear naked choke I have ever seen, all that in 1:20.
6. July 5th, 2008, UFC 86, Jorge Gurgel vs Cole Miller
These two guys had a war at UFC86, beating the crap out of each other for 3 rounds. When it seemed they were both headed to a judge's decision, Cole Miller caught Gurgelin a triangle and made him tap with only 20 seconds left to the fight.
5. March 1st, 2008, UFC 82, Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson
This was actually a really cool submission victory by "The Spider" he had problems in round 1, made adjustmentsin round 2, went to the ground with Henderson and locked in a rear naked choke. Who would have thought Silva would make it look so easy?
4. October 27th, 2004, UFC 50, Matt Hugues vs GSP
Of all 3 fights between these two guys, this is the only fight that was won by Matt Hugues and he won it with a very nice armbar. GSPhad no choice but to tap out with only 1 second left in the first round.
3. January 31st, 2004, UFC 46, Matt Hugues vs BJ Penn
Coming up in weight for the 1st time in his career, BJ Penn challenged Matt Hugues for the UFCwelterweight championship. Many people counted him out but he chocked out Matt Hugues with a rear naked choke in the first round and shocked everybody.
2. June 19th, 2004, UFC 48, Frank Mir vs Tim Sylvia
Okmaybe people will disagree with me putting this fight in the top 10 just because it is considered a TKO because of the referee stoppage, still I consider it a submission because it was an armbar. Fact of the matter is, Frank Mir broke Tim Sylvia's arm in 50 seconds to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. Referee Herb Dean later said it was the most incredible fight he refereed in his life.
1. June 21st, 2008, TUF 6 Finale, Josh Burkman vs Dustin Hazelett
Joe Rogan went on to say that this was the sweetest armbar he had ever seen in his life and UFC.com named it submission of the half-year in July, but it will no doubt be the submission of the year. Fact is, Dustin Hazelett jumped over his opponent to lock in the armbar and make him tapout in round number 2, see it to believe it.
So here it is people, the 10 best submissions in UFC history according to me, feel free to judge if you want to, I don't care but give your own opinion instead.
