Cincinnati Reds Send Edinson Volquez to Louisville, Call Up Todd Frazier
The Cincinnati Reds have sent pitcher Edinson Volquez to Louisville.
He had a terrible start on Sunday in Cleveland and made some untoward comments about the offense. If that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black, nothing is.
Volquez has been nothing short of atrocious this season. His ineffectiveness can be attributed to his first and sixth inning performances. In the first inning, he sports an ERA of 18.00 and in the sixth inning he has an Earnie of 12.46.

From innings two through five, he comes in at 2.45
So how can a man with such a lousy set of numbers criticize the offense, even if it is true?
Volquez is going to Louisville along with reliever Jordan Smith, who has not been nearly as sharp as he was last season.
In 17 games, Smith has an ERA of 7.20 with no decisions. He has surrendered 32 H and 16 ER in only 20 innings.
Todd Frazier and Matt Maloney have been called up from Louisville to join the squad in Philadelphia Monday night, according to MLB reporter Mark Sheldon.
According to Sheldon, Mike Leake or Chad Reineke will fill the spot vacated by Volquez on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.
Frazier has hit 11 HR with 33 RBI and is batting .293 for the Bats. It is unclear what role Frazier will play when he meets the club in Philadelphia. Some think he will play left field, but I would be inclined to watch him stand in line behind Chris Heisey and Fred Lewis.
In other roster moves, the Milwaukee Brewers have picked up southpaw reliever Daniel Ray Herrera on waivers, and sent him to their AAA affiliate.
If things haven’t been going bad enough for the Reds, second baseman Chase Utley is expected to be activated for the game on Monday.
