WWE Over the Limit 2011: Recap and Reactions
Last night WWE held their Over the Limit Pay Per View. Most of the results on the card were pretty predictable, but the matches were decent quality and some story lines were furthered.
The first match of the evening was the newly turned heel R-Truth against Rey Mysterio. I expected Truth to get the win here, and he did. He needed the win more than Mysterio at this point.
Truth's heel turn has been great so far and having him win his first singles match at a PPV in I don't even know how long is a good way to get the push going. The only thing I find confusing is Truth's lack of entrance music. The match was good with Rey hitting his usual spots and Truth looking more like a heel as time goes on.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Ezekial Jackson faced Wade Barrett in the next match of the evening. This outcome was the only one I was wrong about; I thought Zeke would walk away with the title last night.
The WWE has built up Jackson into this big unstoppable force who is able to take guys like the Big Show down with ease. I expected his push to continue, but it's always possible WWE is priming him for a main event run. There hasn't been a big dominant heel in the WWE for awhile and Jackson could fill that role.
Sin Cara vs Chavo was easily my most anticipated match of the night for two reasons. It has been years since a real cruiserweight match has been on WWE television let alone one on PPV featuring Chavo Gurerrero.![]()
Chavo is a great talent who has been drastically underused in his tenure with WWE. Cara getting the win didn't surprise me, but I do hope to see the feud continue. Chavo and Cara have great chemistry so far and I am looking forward to what they can do together.
The next match was Big Show and Kane defending their tag title against CM Punk and Mason Ryan. I am not shocked to see Show and Kane retain their belts here but I also would not have been surprised to see a title change.
Punk is in desperate need of a belt right now and I though the tag titles could be the way to go. I am looking forward to Mason Ryan becoming better because he has a magnetism to him when he is in the ring that can't be bottled or bought.
It's too bad he came in after Batista and has been called a carbon copy by many people. He may have Batista's size, look and wrestling style but Ryan is much younger and that means he has the potential to be around a long time.
If he is packaged and pushed right, and if he keeps improving I see him becoming World Champion within a couple years.
Kelly Kelly vs Brie Bella was a slightly better Divas match than I expected. The women of WWE have stepped up their game lately and have been putting on better in ring matches.
The arrival of Kharma may have something to do with that, and it could also have something to do with HHH being the head of talent development, either way I am happy to see some better matches out of the Divas division.![]()
The only surprising thing about the match was that Kharma never appeared.
The World Heavyweight Title match between Christian and Randy Orton was the more anticipated of the two big matches of the night in my eyes. These two are both faces and a good face vs face program can be great.
Christian wasn't really expected to regain his the title so quickly, but it would have been nice. Orton gave Christian some respect on Twitter following their match so the possibility of more matches between these two is high.
The match was pretty good with both guys hitting their signature moves, but the end came with an RKO and the pin on Christian. Hopefully Captain Charisma can keep the fan momentum going and get himself another title shot soon.
The Kiss My Foot match between Cole and King was nothing less than an excuse to have King get the upper hand for once.
The best part of the match was the appearance of King's former rival and Kiss My Foot match opponent Bret Hart. The ovation for the Hitman was huge and you could see that he was happy to be back in WWE.
I am hoping we see the Hitman tonight on Raw and hopefully for a little while going forward. Maybe he can help Tyson Kidd and DH Smith get some more exposure.![]()
And finally the I Quit match between John Cena and The Miz. I don't think anyone was surprised by the outcome of this match.
I think the best thing for Cena over the past year was not being champion. By not having the belt WWE could put him in feuds where he could be beaten and come back even harder the next time. Having him as the invincible champion does nothing for his career at this point.
The problem with Cena having been as successful as he has been in WWE is that once you reach the top you tend to plateau. Where does Cena go when he has been on the top for so long?
The only thing they can do is have him repackaged at some point and continue his reign because he is not going anywhere anytime soon.
Overall the night was predictable but enjoyable. The surprise entrance from the Hitman made the night for me and the match of the night, at least my personal choice, would have to be Christian vs Orton.
What did you think of last night's event?
